I’ve always been on the look out for an original of the shop display that Dinky used to advertise the “23 Series” Racing Cars. Rare to find and monumentally expensive whenever they appear at auction.

So I’ve made my own version, not a totally faithful replica of the original but not a million miles off...

Like it. I put my Dads collection in a glass case - really nice to see them on display rather than in a cardboard box.

Great stuff!

I got a bit carried away when I did mine (and slightly different for the 23 Series, never really liked the Vanwall compared to the others)

That looks good - did you custom build the cabinets ?

Great minds etc - I also did a sports car version - although before anyone pulls me up on this - I realise that the Dinky Merc and Connaught are streamlined versions of their GP/F2 cars respectively!

I had a frame shop make them for me, solid oak box frames. Sold quite a few of them in the end, but with the increasing cost of the models it just became unviable.

I need something totally different but very similar. wobble

Have you screen printed direct onto a plastic media, or what?

Mine were digitally printed onto polymeric laminate. These were manufactured by a local sign company who normally make shop displays etc. I provided them with a photo of the original base but the repro quality wasn’t brilliant so they did their own artwork based on the original. Obviously they also did the artwork for the sports car version as Dinky never produced anything similar.

I was delighted by the result and there was only limited pain in the wallet area...

What a great idea!!!
I have the racing cars stuffed on my basement shelves and never thought of a more imaginative way to display them.

These all look great! Well done - that's a really neat and nostalgic way to display. I have all the cars either boxed or "playworn" and they are in a nice old pine cupboard. I also have all the Crescent series in a display case I made years ago - they, by the way, are brilliant models.

A fictional 1950's Dinky shop display cabinet knocked up with a few auction bits - but hey it's Christmas..
