My youngest has a Lego train set. Loves it. But leaving the track set up on the floor is problematic.

Ideally I'd like to put it on a board semi-permanently. The Lego track has small holes that I'm thinking small screws could be used to secure it to a board.

Being a bloke I'm looking to over-complicate it where possible....so am wondering if anyone has done something like this that folds down from a wall?

I could just get some board and prop it up against a wall when not in use....but would be neater if it could fold down and perhaps be stood at waist height for use...or maybe some sort of lightweight foldable table?

Anyone have any interesting solutions to this sort of first world problem smile

That brought back memories - my dad did this for me as a kid with a hornby layout. 6x4 foot chipboard in a slim box section on some chunky hinges on a wall batton, folded up against the wall and secured with some door catches fixed on a top batton. Some rope between the top batton and the outside of the board kept it horizontal when folded down. Bonus cork tiles on the outside so it could be used as a pin board. Takes me back thinking about it!

6' x 4' in 1/2" ply, hinged to the wall is the classic solution!

You could stick it on pulleys and have it retract up to ceiling height. I've seen that done before.
