Help. Why has this happened?

This is my test piece and fortunately I’ve not lacquered the model.

I painted it with Humbrol satin 127. The lacquer has made it craz, lacquer is Humbrol gloss varnish Spray can.

What do I do on the model now?

Use a different lacquer - Try Winsor & Newton Galeria it’s water based and pretty benign.

Personal preference, but for a small scale military model I’d use matt - gloss gives unrealistic reflections IMO.

I wouldn’t use any Humbrol product. Looks like a reaction with the paint and the lacquer, the solvent or the propellant.

Hobbycraft sell it. Make sure you do another test piece though - 99.9% sure it will be fine, but you never know.

ETA and Amazon sell it.

The lacquer you sprayed, reactivated and melted the lacquer below. It also probably wasnt fully cured.
Really try and drop humbrol paints especially cans. There are soo much better paints out there. Try and forget this nostalgic attachment to humbrol this country seems to have.
Try Aqua Gloss if you dont have an airbrush, this should brush on.

Thanks for all the advice. The test piece had been painted a couple of weeks ago. I have a descent mini spray gun and I have Unfortunately already sprayed the model with Humbrol paint.

Will get myself another test piece and try with your recommendations.

The other thing with lacquer clears, especially from a can is the first layer has to be a very light coat. it helps protect the base paint from the layers of "hot" clear ontop which can melt paint.
