tamiya detail parts?
Discussion
hi all,
as a covid pastime, i recently bought a tamiya 1:12 ducati 916 and every single pot of paint on the build list. the guy in the ship was well happy!
i haven't done any modelling in over 20yrs and i was terrible at it then. i am hoping age and patience are in my favour.
just wondering if these kits have any of the upgrade detail parts available that i see some of you use on your models. i can't seem to find any? i'd like to build it as a motivation for me buying the real thing, so would be nice to make it as detailed as possible.

Yes Hiroboy looks like your best bet:

I don't think Tamiya have done their own detail set.

If you're brush painting, prepare for a potentially frustrating time if you've bought Tamiya acrylics...
Some retarder will help to slow down the drying, I mixed some Vallejo flow improver with Tamiya and didn’t see any adverse effects. However thinning with x20 had it drying in seconds....Thanks. Bought the Senna kit and also a Honda NS500 and the full detail kit for it. I'm going to make such a hash of these....
I bought Tamiya paints, dunno if they're acrylic. I want the Ducati to be yellow though, so was probably going to prime and paint the fairings with a rattle can and then rub down as required.
Just finished my 1:1 Ducati so may start this weekend if I have any free time.

There are differnt types of acrylic paint. If you look at your Tamiya bottles, you'll see they're flammable, if you look at Vallejo, they're not. I bought Tamiya paints, dunno if they're acrylic. Tamiya acrylics are more volatile than some others, and appear to dry quickly, but this can be deceptive. It's very easy to roll the paint off a previous coat when brush painting them. You need the thin them and give a few coats, but the main thing is to leave them for 12 hours or so between coats to ensure they dry properly.
I always recommend Vallejo Model Colour for brush painting - they're formulated for it, whereas Tamiya is primarily for airbrushing.
