Thought I’d start a thread for any owners.
I recently got a blue TRX4, the scope of mods and upgrades is bigger than I thought!
So far I’ve only got an aerial, swapped the radio to Spektrum as I prefer 2 sticks, got some body clips on cable (makes it much quicker to remove them, and harder to lose, red towing eyes, metal steering servo horn, and nearly finished a new Repsol style shell.
I’ve also removed the fake winch, which allows you to move the front bumper back another notch, which looks better and improves the approach angle.
Edit: I forgot, I did the free tyre mod, see here:

Did you get a Defender? Which colour?
I really wanted an orange one but can only buy it as a separate shell now

How tough/reliable are they? I once had a Traxxas stampede and the gearbox was constantly failing and the driveshafts splitting, i stuck with tamiya ever since.

Pretty good from what I’ve seen, I’ve seen people say the steering servo horn has broken, but that’s only a few quid to upgrade.

Here’s a good example

It’s an amazing colour in the sun, it’s so bright!
The pictures online don’t do it any justice

I would love one of these but the cost is prohibitive for something I may not take to. I also want to do my own build and this actually works out more expensive that RTR.

I was originally put off due to preferring building it myself.
I was aware of the kit, but then having to add another £150 or so just for the shell put me off.
In the end I just went for RTR to save money. The sacrificing of the build was soon forgotten, especially as with the amount of upgrades and mods available you’ll soon have it in bits any way!

Yep all RTRs become kits at some point.
Its inevitable in the world of RC.

Here's my 6 wheel AMG, bought it from Germany as it was a bit cheaper. Having said that after buying the proper charger and two decent batteries it does amount to a few bob. It is superb with locking diffs and real fine speed control.

It’s a slippery slope once you start ordering bits from China and 3D printing your own hinges and handles!

It does seem funny to me that everyone moans about them being top heavy, yet then put tons of extra stuff on the body making it even worse!
I won’t bother with any of that, it might do some performance and handling related upgrades

It really is very cool. I’ve only run it up and down the farm track outside the house but the stuff it will climb up (even with diffs unlocked) is hilarious.

Someone posted in the TRX4 group that he had started selling them. Historically I’ve always lost them in grass when changing a battery or whatever, so thought it was a good idea to get them for a few quid.
Also with the paranoia some have regarding lipos, I thought it would be a handy quick release if it was ever needed to gain access quickly.

He sells other bits and bobs too

Presume it’s ok to change between low and high gears whilst on the move? Ditto diff locks?
