Some unusual items were highlighted on an eBay ad which appeared whilst I was browsing some forum stuff... Screenshot below. Highlighting cars I get on a car related site, but the two on the left? For those who are interested, they click through to self assembly resin models of girls which I didn't even know was a thing! Is it??

A likely story scratchchin

Those kind of ads are targeted and based on your own search history or that of the device you are using. Are you the only user?

I build scale models (not of girls!) and I see these things cropping up on ebay more and more, I've no idea who their target market is for these kind of things? Seedy old men want to build a 1/35 replica of a girl? Must be selling though as there seems to be 100's of different 'kits' available.

I've had similar. I think the link is scale model parts. I was looking for resin warhammer kits for my son on Ali express as there are some suppliers selling warhammer inspired (but not games workshop) kits that are cheaper than gamesworkshop stuff. He's 10, he wouldn't know the difference.

Ha! I knew that might come up. I disabled adchoice a long time ago and rarely use eBay these days - I think it's just random.

Yes, it is a thing in the anime fandom, and a very expensive thing at that.

Nearly £35 for a single 1/8 figure. I love Shirobako, but I think I'll stick to my Spitfires and Tiger tanks at these prices.

I was quite shocked to see ads!

Remember the bad old days when the ads made PH unusable?

This is 'a thing',and has been for quite a while. When my wife was a features writer for FHM she had to do an article about an american guy who specialised in using these kits to build little erotic tableaus, which he'd then light and photograph to make 'art'. There's a book of his stuff up in the loft (in amongst a big pile of FHMs). David somebody, it'll come to me in a minute...

wait...

When I was younger (27 years ago) I worked in a model shop; one of our customers died suddenly and the solicitor dealing with the estate called the owner and asked him to value the deceased's radio controlled equipment/boats, and I went along to help. We uncovered a whole stash of intricately painted model "ladies" in one of the kit boxes, which I am sure the chap did not want to be discovered.... We quietly took the box along with all the other stuff and dumped it without ever mentioning it again. It all felt a bit weird.

I had been looking for some Fujimi cars on HLJ (HobbyLink Japan) so not surprisingly one of their ads popped up when I was next on PH. Apart from a car,an aircraft and a tank, there was one of these figures. Judging by three starred out areas, I can only guess that the young lady was "anatomically correct". Rather creepy.

Weirdly popular in Japan, their modelling mags are full of this kind of thing. Hasegawa do a range of things like school desks and vending machines to go with them :-o
