I'm using Tamiya/Vajello acrylics for my models and I want to try some washes and weathering on my Cromwell tank.

I've got oil paints I can use but don't have any specific modelling thinners.

What I do have lots of is Isopropanol and also acetone.

Are these suitable to thin oil paints without my model dissolving into a pile of melted plastic?

I will of course be giving the model a coat of laquer before attempting anything.

Use white spirit to clean it off (and thin the oils) carefully does it and you will be ok, as long as the lacquer coat you mentioned is still acrylic type. Make sure you give it at least 24hrs after the clear coat before going at it. Check out Flory vids on YouTube, might encourage you to get some of their washes which are great, but Phil Flory does also use oil washes too.

Vallejo should thin with just water, although this can cause clumping and tide marks as the paint dries, you might want to thin it with acrylic medium, either Vallejo's own, or any brand of artist's acrylic medium. It looks white but dries transparent.

Acrylics washes are risky as they are harder to blend and remove.
Just get some odourless spirits and use with your oil paints. This is the preferred method for washes, and easily blended and removed.
Tamiya are not full acrylics like vallejo, they are a lacquer hybrid, and do not respond well to water.
ONly try acrylic washes if you really know what you are doing.
