After a few nice and easy Tamiya bikes to get my confidence up I am now going to attempt this 1/16th Revell 300 SL Roadster. The electronic module isn't there but I am hoping all the other bits are. Lots are broken off the sprues and there is an extra chassis from a Burago Porsche 911

Great colour choice! Quite a different prospect compared with a Tamiya anything....but hope you're enjoying what an older kit can give. Fingers crossed all the parts are there..I once built a second hand 16th Heller Citroen DS decapotable and one of the doors in the box was from the saloon kit, so a good few mm short....easy to fix though. Please keep posting progress, no pressure!

Making some progress, it has gone together well, made my usual mess of the exterior. My Halfords clear lacquer seems to have reacted with the Tamiya TS and left massive orange peel. Spent this morning polishing it to try and remove but if i go much further I risk burning through.

Oooh sorry to see that but I've had no end of trouble with Halfords lacquer; it was once so utterly reliable but I expect an alteration to the recipe changed it for good. I now use the Tamiya ts13 clear aerosol instead. Now that's good stuff.
Would you consider stripping the body (in brake fluid for example) to restart on clean plastic? All looking very nice so far..

I think you'll need to strip that back to get a decent finish.

I had some gloss coat do this recently - I could go a bit more heavy handed on the repaint to recover it than you'll be able to on a car body.

I used Plastikote Clear Gloss Sealer to do my job...worked great on top of Tamiya paints (link in the "hardest paints" thread on here).

I have had some perfect finishes with this can,

don't know if I didn't shake it enough or it was too hot. Went down in a perfect wet coat but dried like crocodile skin.

Don't think I will strip and redo, the car is too big for my booth and I am out of paint. Hopefully my local model shop will be open again soon and I can stock up. I begrudge paying £7 to get paint delivered now Royal Mail won't transport it.

Well that looks great! Nice '32 too.
You say it was going together ok? Blew my expectation there'd be fit issues all the way with that old kit!
Inspired and curious I dusted off an old can of Halfords lacquer from stock...had written "spitty" on the lid...it was still spitty and quite hot, sprayed over black it opened up some micro scratches in the Halfords colourcoat underneath. Slathered on enough I'll be able to cut through the peel but think I'll bin it....
