I recently sold an ageing fluorescent desk lamp because it had gone dim and greenish, and bought an LED lamp on a flexible stalk instead.

The light area is about 5"x1.5" and whilst it's bright enough, it casts shadows and I'm constantly moving it around to get a better angle.

What lighting would you recommend for a bench about 4.5'wide x 2' deep? I think I don't really like LED light at close quarters for long periods. Colour-wise I like proper tungsten.

I use two angle-poise lamps fitted with daylight bulbs - one on either side of my work area. Having a lamp either side of the workbench helps mute and fill in harsh shadows - and the daylight bulbs gives you a better idea as to how the colours look as you paint your model.
