Mrs Draw has kindly offered to buy me an F1 kit for my birthday.
Budget £50- £100 (very generous of her you might say except I'll be paying for it)
I prefer the later F1's rather than the classic's.
Something like the Revell Ferrari F2005 looks nice.
Are there any manufacturers/ models that you would recommend either to buy or avoid?
I've only done 3 kits so far and they have all been Tamiya so I'm not up to speed on other makers.
I know it's a personal choice but other's views would be appreciated.
Hi! I built the 1/12th revell Ferrari, The overall look is good but not a high degree of detail to build.
It does present as a nice display model though.
Try searching 1/24th.Theres loads of 1/24th scale later F1 cars from the likes of Tamiya and others with quite a high level of detail and of coarse are quality kits.
You could try searching on ebay "1/12th model car kits".
Good luck .
PS try looking at F1 model car kits on Youtube, might give you some ideas

Licensing issues mean there arent many of the recent F1 cars.
But a good starting point would be to go to Scalemates. They basically list every model kit known to man and the extras available.
You could try a search for F1 and then narrow it down with the filters on the right by scale and make
I would say though your main choice will be from Tamiya though, nice kits.
At least on this site you will see what is out there. Most kits will also have a section showing who sells it.

The more recent Tamiya 1/20 kits (and, to be fair, the older ones) almost fall together. The Lotus 79 is a true pleasure to build. Another newish manufacturer is Ebbro who have released some very nice classic subjects like Jackie Stewart era Tyrrells. Their chief model designer is ex-Tamiya, I’ve done the Lotus 72 and it’s gorgeous!
In my personal opinion those two set the standard.

I decided to go with a McLaren Honda MP4-30 by Ebbro.
I wanted to go Tamiya but an amazing amount of their kits were sold out and although there was still a good choice I didn't see anything that caught my eye.
Whether folk taking up modelling again due to Covid 19 or just a lack of supplies I don't know.
Has anybody else noticed a shortage of kits?
Anyway I've found a guy on YouTube who has a stage by stage build so that'll help, especially in the painting dept.
In the absence of an airbrush I'm going to bite the bullet and get the proper aerosols and try and get the paint as good as I can.
