Can remember reading the review for this one. I never saw a proper 1/12th or 1/10th on road event but can imagine they were much faster than optima/cats etc but also very sensitive to set up?
When I first took it for a run, we were amazed at the acceleration and top speed. The rear suspension worked very well, but the simple springs with no damper on the rear meant it bounced badly on the area we drove which was one of the NEC car parks, and was covered in massive stones.
It would have been great I suspect on a dedicated RC race track, but I never had chance to try it at one.
Got a shabby trio here. Sadly I'm not the original owner, these were bought over the last 5 years. The Baja just last week as a lockdown project.
The Tamiya Fighter Buggy RX is mid redecoration of the body shell, hence the tape all over it for scribing panel lines. Work's going slower than anticipated because I got unexpectedly called back to work off furlough this week.
The Kyosho Ultima is my dirty shelf queen. No plans to restore as yet. I quite like it in its used and abused state and wearing its racing numbers.
The Kyosho Baja will get a full rebuild, front shocks (an optional extra at the time) and new body shell. I'm not too familiar with nitro and this is a very old early 80s buggy, so lots of research needed.

Only last year I was running my scratch-built MTB with its original 1985 Futaba 27Mhz r/c and Mabuchi motor. Worked as well as it had in 1985!
I did however replace the very dead NiCads - well actually they did work but only for a minute - and the speed controller (which looked like a small power station and the heatsink was so big it had to be mounted on the deck) was replaced by something the size of an After Eight mint.
