Painting RC Tamiya Landrover?
Discussion
Hi! Finally folded and have ordered a Tamiya Landrover for something to do in lockdown.
The website pics show it painted in a Tamiya green, which looks really good, but I wanted to have a go at painting mine a bit different (for the scale version anyway) and paint it Keswick Green.
Now obviously I won’t get a Lexan paint match for it. But would it be possible to paint it with car paint from a rattle can? Or would I be able to use something like an acrylic airbrush paint such as the Vallejo range, which comes in a multitude of colours?
I’ve done a search on using certain paints on Lexan, but seems to be varying opinions, so any advice is welcome!

You'll need to paint it with PS Tamiya paint in your chosen colour.

If it is a clear lexan shell you really do need to use a Tamiya TS lexan paint. Otherwise it will just flake and chip off.
Also, you do know clear lexan is painted from the inside?
Thought it was ps paint for lexan? Also, you do know clear lexan is painted from the inside?
There are other manufacturers available, search ebay for polycarb paints
Closest I've seen to that shade is PS32 Corsa Grey, but it's much too light.
Could try backing it with a dark green after 3 coats or so?
There's a growing shortage of Tamiya paints in certain popular colours right now, due to the lockdown many have fallen back into the hobby and the demand is higher than it is over Christmas periods.

Well kits (almost) finished now. Used Vallejo paint in the end and tried to get one that I thought looked similar to the colour I wanted.
Happy with the finish, just need to see how well it stands up to use!
Bought a few leds etc now to get all the lights working and thinking of getting a light at for the roof

Very close to getting one of these (after the associated permissions etc.). Looking at a dark grey and I may play with a carbon fibre on the roof.
What modifications have you done for the initial build and how is the steering?
The only mods so far are to fit ball bearings. Not sure I really need to fit too many upgrades, but may fit them as I feel I need to. Only thing I did wonder about is to go Lipo, but again not sure I really need to.What modifications have you done for the initial build and how is the steering?
I also want to try and get the lights switching on and off from the spare channels, so finding the best way to do that.
The steering is ok. You need to do about a 5 point turn to turn round in tight spaces, but took it down the deserted PC World Car park today and you can easy flip it on turns if your not careful. Need to take it off road really I think to see it at its best.

If you can, protect the inside, as Vallejo paint is not known for it toughness. Plus it wont grip the lexan very well if that is what the shell is made of.
I did a test with an off cut from the body first. After it had time to dry for a day it seemed ok and passed the Scratch with a Fingernail test! I made sure to go over the body with some scotch pad first, then give it a good wash. Ive also overcoated the colour coat with Vallejo primer coat so hoping that will give it some protection.
