I'm getting there,
sorted the batt issue and spent a fun hr zipping around the garden with the GrassHopper - feeling quite chuffed until she (it?) suddenly stopped.
I could still here the motor running but no movement and a quick 5 mins investigation shows that the two long screws that secure the motor to the gear box have disappeared, somewhere into the long grass I'm sure.
If I cant find them - where's the best place to source replacements ...
is it best to just buy the 'metal screws bag' ?

Amazon and Jadlam are the first places I would look.
That said if there is someone who owns one who can tell you the right size there are many places you could possibly get the right size screws.
And a bottle of locktight...
Failing all that i would think about calling Jadlam as they might be able to tell you an alternative - for example i would imagine that these are that same length as they use for the Hornet, if not 99% of the range.

A quick look at the manual suggests 3 x 27mm screws, Tamiya sell these in bags of ten, part nr 9804163.

May be worth buying a pack as it may happen again.
A little threadlock might help.

I've just ordered a load of spares for my '84 Frog from Time Tunnel models (including packs of screws for new wheels). Pretty good at delivery as well, although some stuff might be delayed. The search function on their website isn't the best, but if you put in a Tamiya part number (just the number), it invariably shows up.

now what's the next step when in inevitably want to go faster
Honestly there are those much wiser and knowing than me but in all honesty if you want to go much faster you are moving away from Tamiya stuff and into more RTR or specialist (AKA Expensive) stuff running lipo.now what's the next step when in inevitably want to go faster
I've gone round the houses over the years with rc cars and have settled on the Tamiya stuff as whilst it isn't that fast it is a lot of fun, easy to get bits for, not that expensive and happy to be used and abused, thrown in a corner and then 3 months later and a charge of the batteries and you have another 3-4 hours of bashing about fun (dependent on batteries and cooling car down).
Back in the day i had a Boomerang and then a Super Sabre. These days (via a number of petrol/nitro cars) i have an Audi, a Lancia Delta, a Neo Scorcher (sp?) and a Super Clodbuster (very sloooow). I planned to add a Renault 5 turbo 2 to it but Russy sold out before my brother could confirm if he wanted me to get one for him at the same time...
