Hi all,

I’m just about to start another r/c build - the Tamiya TT-02 Porsche 911 RSR ‘73.

This requires silver paint. I’ve built >100 kits over the years but I don’t think I’ve ever painted silver. Do you think it will need a backing paint after the silver, such as white, to make it appear more opaque? This is of course painted from inside the shell.

Thanks folks!

My tamiya dual ridge uses the same ps12 paint and required a black backing coat.

That’s a great finish. Thanks for the reply, and advice.

Definitely use a black backing coat as it will tend to stay a bit translucent using just the silver.

When i paint a shell silver then i back with white first as it makes the silver a littler brighter.

Then back with black afterwards.

i tend to think of the shell as a replaceable item that ends up getting bashed to hell so don't get over excited about the ultimate quality of the paint job. That said i have a friend who always sprays a final backing layer of matt black on their shells.

I've got a silver shell to paint, this will be a shelfer though, as it already has scruffy body for driving. Current plan is to do the silver and then see if it needs to be darker/lighter.
