Look what i found in the attic.Started many years ago, lost through a couple of house moves.
Found the box as well with all the bits left to do
Dusty with cobwebs

Seeing the world imploading, ive also decided to impload myself by ordering a 1/43 tameo wct Ferrari 500 1953 Ascari kit from GP models.
Smallest i will ever have attempted to build, so should be a challenge or send me pottywoohoo

Rereleased fairly recently too, so easy to get parts or decals. Have fun!

It’s the 1/12 Tamiya with studio57 extra photo etch i bought for it.
I have the tamiya anti static model brush which should take most if not all the dust and cobwebs off. It’s a great tool for cleaning models. The rest I’ll have to do with a cotton bud before finishing it.
I’ve noticed a few things that would require taking it apart but I’m just happy to finish it as is and be greatfull to have something to do other than painting fences and gardening.

It looks like its very nicely built - it’s always good to revive an old model. It’ll be interesting to see the difference. I’ve got the 1:20 version somewhere, built for my dad back in...a very long time ago.

I washed about 20 of my old Tamiya F1 cars when I moved house - highly diluted detergent in a bowl, applied with a small soft paintbrush. Then rinsed under a tap. Worked fine (but they were painted with enamels)

Good luck!

Thanks Dr_gn.
See how successful the cleanup is. I will post the result at some point.Actually there’s some patina on the model would look quite nice against polished surfaces but the rest of the unbuilt parts would need about 10 years of dust collecting to match up. Your current build thread is something to behold. Very impressive attention to detail. I appreciate the amount of planning, prep and thought processes that goes into producing high detail even it it can’t be seen at the end of the project.Cheers

I look forward to seeing your progress - I love the Tamiya 1:12 cars, even though I only built one. I think if I was in your position, I'd wash it, build the rest and appreciate it as it is. Maybe buy the Ferrari 312 to go with it if you fancy going the extra mile? I think the old models in this series actually look far better than the '90's ones when built OOB. Their riveted aluminium chassis and their general layout look far more intricate than carbon tubs. Incredibly impressive models.

My intention with the MP4/6 was to crack it apart and add some detail to it. Since then the Top Studio sets became available which raised the standard to a level that made a rebuild to the right standard very difficult. Luckily, I was offered a new kit at a good price, so that's what I'm building now, incorporating the T/S sets. It'll be displayed as a chassis. My original will be 'kerbside'. A lot of work, and not what I had in mind initially but there you go.

ETA, I think the detail stuff was Studio 27 rather than 57? Something to do with Gilles Villeneuve's F1 number IIRC.

I like the barn find look of it as is. Would look great with a suitable grubby background set.

Yes would have been good if only i had finished the kit and put the whole thing in the attic to gather dust.
So i have used the brush (expensive but great static tool) and a hoover.
Heres what i got. Not bad, just a bity of tidying and get on with finishing this kit
