I have been toying with getting a RC kit again but I am somewhat out of my depth as things have moved on a lot since I would wander round the local Beatties store or read magazines. To have a little play and familiarise I thought I would dig out my Kyosho Raider kit from my youth. .

So here is the box down from the loft

Inside

shoe box of parts

Because it was so long ago that it was boxed away I have no idea what worked and what didn't. So my plan was to fully dismantle and rebuild, well we have plenty of time to spend enjoying hobbies (new and old).
On taking the main items out of the boxes it started coming back to what the issues were all those years ago.

I think this is probably the crossroad decision point, do I throw some money at this to get it going or just by a new kit.
Items needed I guess; speed control, motor, battery and probably a new Radio.

A downside of the lockdown is I can't go visit a model shop for advise and walk out with a pile of parts or even a new kit.
So who can point towards a good source of parts with a recommend shopping list

I had a Kyosho Raider about 30 years ago - always wanted an Ultima though!

If you are interested in a new car, I’ve found Jadlam to be pretty good, the owner is a PHer https://www.jadlamracingmodels.com/radio-control

Well I have had a scan through the pages of Modelsport and created the below shopping cart.
The question is will it actually combine together and make the Raider run again?

Core RC Code 2.4G FHSS 3 Channel Steerwheel Combo CR277
https://www.modelsport.co.uk/core-rc-rc-systems/rc...

Core RC Receiver/Brushed ESC 3 in 1 CRA186
https://www.modelsport.co.uk/index.php?product_id=...

Core RC 15t Silver Can Brushed 540 Motor CR710
https://www.modelsport.co.uk/core-rc-15t-silver-ca...

Enrich Power 2000mAh 7.2v NiMH Stick Pack EP2000S
https://www.modelsport.co.uk/enrich-power-2000mah-...

connections didn't look to match the battery - Traxxas 4 amp DC Charger (6 - 7 cell, 7.2 - 8.4 volt, NiMH) TRX2975
https://www.modelsport.co.uk/index.php?product_id=...

This little lot would be about £100, please tell me if these would work or point me to a better collection.

maybe I should go for a new kit
Tamiya Subaru WRX STI TT-02 24h Nurburgring (https://www.modelsport.co.uk/tamiya-subaru-wrx-sti-tt-02-24h-nurburgring/rc-car-products/408626)
or

Order arrived and was installed yesterday.

One battery charge shakedown in the garden completed this evening. It threw the pinion gear off after a couple of minutes and showed that I need to re-glue the rear wheel/tyres.
Will need to get some Velcro strips and rubber bands to secure components.

Kids loved having a go.
