Aiming to paint some table football figures. Need the hardest paint I can get.

I'm assuming enamels?

Can I use a car filler/primer as the base for these?

What are they made from?

Most acrylic based primers won't affect most materials. However, I once melted a 1/72 F-86 by using an inappropriate primer.

They're plastic. Soft feeling and solid.

I should probably start with a forward, and if the primer causes issues paint him up as Beardsley smile

If he crumbles under pressure and falls over with the slightest tap, it has to be Emile Heskey.

I imagine a good polyurethane varnish over the top of whatever paint you use would help matters.

This is one of the things I've been thinking...but wasn't sure what you can put over what without issues. Same with primers.

Browsing around I also thought enamels and acrylics were totally different, but then saw this confusing item:

(Not picking on you russy01 btw...was just browsing).

In my book enamel paint is solvent based and acrylic paint is water based. But who knows what marketeers will invent?

NB You may not want the hardest paint but the most flexible... 'hard' could simply crack. Just a thought.

Not all acrylics are water based. Some are alcohol based. The problem is that the word "acrylic" is used rather loosely at times to describe paints that are not enamels.

And there are also laquers.

Yes, Tamiya acrylics are alcohol based, and tend not to be paintbrush friendly, hence miniature painters prefer something like Vallejo, Scale 75 or Citadel because they thin down much more nicely with water. Vallejo (etc) also have their own varnishes. The traditional way of doing it, with models that aren't intended to be museum pieces, is to use whatever name Johnson Klear (floor wax) is called this week.

Thought I'd update this...

Used Tamiya acrylic mini pots for the majority of it. Tamiya Mica Red spray for the Liverpool team (not an accurate colour match really but works fine for this application).

Then used Plastikote Clear Gloss Sealer ( here).

Ran out of it for the last 8 players and found an old can of Valspar on the shelf. Luckily only tried it on 3 players as despite looking like the same product and smelling exactly the same, it reacted badly with the Tamiya paint, stripping the topcoat off to a small extent - luckily I only did a fine coat at first and noticed it happening straight away.

Wickes opened up in time for me to get another can of Plastikote (much, much cheaper than the first can sourced online!). Was able to colour back over the stripped areas, then re-did the clear sealer and it worked OK.

Decal matches look much better in the flesh (self crafted/printed decals). Whole thing has just enough "hand painted" look to it smile Kids love it.

Couple of games in and no chipping just yet.

Players started out like this

And now look like this

Nicely done!

But one team should really be in their away kit. smile

And think of the fun you could have painting modern multi-coloured boots!

I did consider both...

The boots are most likely to get chipped so went for "sensible"/one colour repairs...

And neither set of supporters would yield on the strip biggrin
