All, I'm getting to the stage of life where nostalgia is taking over my mind. A lot of my early memories are of Silverstone, and distinctive racing cars. I recently found some pictures of cars that obviously caught my eye as a 7 year old, at the 1977 Silverstone Tourist Trophy. BTW, photos were taken on my much loved Ilford Sprite camera, on 120 film, so they're a bit crap, but meant a lot to me...

Alpina BMW CSL:

BMW CSL:

Jaguar XJ 5.3C:

Also, the Hermatite BMW 3.5 CSL of Tom Walkinshaw from the 1976 Silverstone 6 Hours:

I'm wondering if there are any decent quality 1:43 models of the above at a reasonable price? Pre-built or kits are fine.

Thanks in advance.

There's 574 hits for "BMW CSL" on Ebay.

I scrolled through 3 pages of them ,lots in other liveries and 1/18 size but surely something there to suit.

Anything from Minichamps ,IXO or Spark are decent quality.

Tried EBay - only the Hermatite BMW by Spark, and a dodgy looking SMTS Jaguar kit. No idea about quality of either. 1:43 is the scale I want.

SMTS are fantastic, you won't go wrong with one of those. Available in kit form or built up.

Not quite what you are after, but FLY car model do a 1:32 slot car of the Hermitite BMW. And it is absolutely lovely. Great detail, and it moves!

A couple of years ago I had to re-cage one of the UFO CSL back to a period correct cage. I completely fell for the old girl with its battle weary shell - not so much the old cage which in places wasn’t fully welded! The cage in period was odd in that the diagonal triangulated on the wrong side - over the passenger seat instead of the usual drivers side. Once it was done and reluctantly handed back I trawled ebay and nabbed a 1/43 Spark model of it and yes, the diagonal is correct!

This set a trend and it has now been joined by a Lotus Cortina (my best result to date running a car for its owner, the car was previously pedalled by Moss and Jackie Oliver) and a Mini Cooper (I was lucky enough to chuck a John Rhodes car up a local hill climb), both SMTS kits I’ll need to build at some point.

Spark also do a Gosser CSL and SMTS do the XJ12.
