Anyone going? I’m making my first visit this year on either Saturday or Sunday, not yet decided which day.

Yep, many will be going on here.
It will be my 3rd time.
Sunday is the more relaxed day, Saturday is manic.
Get there as early as you can
Take cash......and more cash.....
Try and plan where you are going and write a shopping list, you will miss stuff, it is soo big.
Have a shower and use deodorant.

I'll be there all weekend - ostensibly with IPMS Farnborough but most likely wandering around spending money. I will be doing entrance desk duty on Saturday and Sunday between 11 and 12 noon - so say hello.

My plan is not to wash or use deodorant for the preceding week - just to ensure I match the stereotype.

You won't be getting £5 off me smile I should be wearing an IPMS Farnborough T-Shirt which has my name on it -= so I should be pretty obvious.

Not really. There will be at least 3,000 visitors over the weekend - all in an enclosed space (although a fairly large one) and there will be a few around who could do with a bit of hygiene advice. I've just spent a week back stage with a cast of very energetic performers (me being one of them) and that would give Scale Modelworld a good run for its money on the whiff stakes.

Some of the traders sell spray painting filter sets. I reckon it's a ploy by them to encourage sales.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. It's been a tough year but having modelling (and modelling mates) as a crutch to lean on has been a great help.

Just back from a very wet and windy Portsmouth Model Show at Fort Widley.

Wot he said. Unfortunately there is usually a lot of very fat, still live with mum at 40 odd years or age, unwashed sweaty tw@ts who, quite frankly, shouldn't be let in without a compulsory jet wash in the car park. And watch out for the inconsiderate t0ssers with massive bloody rucksacks on their backs who will smash you in the face if you get too close. Most of them a generally fat knackers too.

Our 4th visit, 2nd for the weekend, one thing to add is if you see something that you like buy it there and then otherwise it will be gone. I have had the experience of spotting something, then having a further look round only to find it’s been sold when I got back.

There are some bargains but know your prices (for kits mainly) as prices sometimes are higher than expected, some dealers will do a discount on pre ordered stuff.

If there’s something you are after but get narked by the postage then see if they can bring it with them but ask sooner rather than later. It is a great place for ‘stuff’ tools, materials etc. With all the trade stands it can be a bit overwhelming, don’t forget to look at the displays.

Like Eric I will be doing a helping out stint as usual

This year for my sins I drew the Kit Swap detail, not my favourite gig but there is no way the event could happen without club assistance so I do it lightheartedly

It's only an hour too, hardly arduous

Eric will be working harder I reckon

Birmingham IPMS if you fancy a natter, assuming you can find time

Telford is big, we're in hall 3

I'll be doing two stints at the front desk so 2 hours in total. Compared to spending four hours lugging tables around at the end of the show (which used to be one of my "tasks" up until a couple of years ago) , sitting in the foyer smiling at people is a doddle.

I'm looking forward to the weekend. It's always great to meet old modelling mates and of course - look at some cracking models and spend some dosh.

Was considering going but on balance I think I'll give it a miss.

Not forgetting the huge handed ‘ladies’. First to spot one gets their lunch bought is our sad little game.

I can see this is going to be much more of an experience than just enjoying the exhibition of models and spending money...

Come on - people like that are a minority. And you might even get to meet ME. What more could you want (and I use deodorant)?

You are joking right?
Do you avoid all public places?
