I’m currently working on a Ford transcontinental that my father used to own-the picture of it in the desert is before we owned it...

Ignore the wheels-they are my test set.
I can’t seem to upload more than one picture at a time!

Been a long while but I’ve picked the Transcon back up,complete with 40 ft York spread axle trailer that my father owned-an excellent kit from Modellers Resource.I’ve had to make a few alterations to make it more like our trailer, the rear end and light brackets are scratch built.
I spent a lot of time painting the real trailer outside our house when I was a youngster!! Lots of red oxide and Woolworths non drip gloss black as I recalllaugh
This trailer will be correctly roped and sheeted soon.

There’s no replies to any of your posts, And!

So I just thought that I’d post to say that I’m absolutely certain that I’m not the only one who a) appreciates scratch builds (sorry folks, but Lego is a child’s toy, even if I’ve built a couple of sets in adulthood myself!) and b) likes seeing something a little different.

I was raised by my grandparents. My grandfather died when I was five (in 1975), but some of my earliest memories were visiting him at work, where he was the MD of a large General Motors garage (Bachelor Bowles of Leicester, if anyone recalls it?). I’d be left with the fitters, sat in the cab of a Bedford truck whilst my grandmother consulted with my grandfather. Happy memories……….

So, please keep the updates coming!

ETA: coincidentally, my grandfather was friendly with Fred Davies, the Canadian (?) owner of Corby-based York trailers!

I seem to recall you replying to a post about my Bedfords previously and your grandfather being the MD of a Bedford agents-Bedfords really are my thing, my father started out with a succession of Bedford KM artics, and latterly a TM with a two stroke Detroit engine-that’s another model I have planned for the future

Yup, that was me! The trucks used to fascinate and scare me in equal measure. To five-year-old me they were HUGE! And smelt…… well, fascinating really. I grew up to be the only mechanically adept member of a family of accountants and medics!

A stunning model build and a lovely thread about reminiscing, to boot.

Much appreciated. Thank you.

Very happy with this, still a bit to do on both the big Ford and the trailer, and some subtle weathering needed.
This brings back some happy childhood memories

Superb model, did your tarpaulins ever have company names on them? Trying to get the company name straight was a bit of a swine.

My Uncle went to Italy in a Yellow Ford Transcontinental for his Honeymoon, while his mate drove Lol. Always struck me as weird but it was a cheap way to a foreign holiday in 1979 for a couple with a new house to pay for. He drove a Guy BigJ4T so that was a massive step up in comfort.

No we didn’t have the names on our sheets but my father was folding a new sheet up once when another lorry drove over it and left some perfect tyre marks over the sheet!
He wasn’t happy lol
