We've all seen vandals in action before, but this takes some beating.. mad

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lincolnshire...

Sadly that's not what the perpetrators will be getting, unless the railway enthusiasts get hold of them down a dark tunnel sometime.

The hours of work ruined in a few minutes beggars belief..

Awful...

I am not a modeller - but know how much work goes into it.

All vandalism is peculiar to me - to deliberately damage someone else's property is something I don't understand.

I bet these scrotes dont have anything of value to them that could be stamped on and trashed in front of them. They should be made to make a walk of shame past those people who's work they have damaged. Mind you they would probably goad and smirk at them, sign of what our society has become.

If I had my life's work at an exhibit like that I think I would be spending the night in the place where it was being shown!

Absolutely heartbreaking.

It is not just the railway models that were destroyed but the shared time of a bunch of enthusiasts who spent years building them. I have never understood this kind of nihilism, this rage against others, the satisfaction of leaving devastation in their wake.

I hope they are caught but there is little satisfaction in their conviction. The chance of any kind of redemptive transformation is zero. Although I am not a railway modeller I have known a number and understand the endless patience and research people put into their layouts and models.

Very sad.

I’m shocked. I’ve taken time to think about this. The time, effort, patience and cost of the model builders to end up destroyed by senseless inward thinking vandalism. Makes me sick to see and hear what’s happened. Why.?. What’s the motivation?.Wheres the reward for this behaviour. These works were one offs.Time, care, a love of the craft gone.I hope the victims can rise above this and keep on building.

Doesn’t the article say they already found the culprits? If not I must have read it elsewhere.
I don’t think we can blame modern society. This sort of mindless activity has always taken place.
The issue is that the sort of person that would do this can’t understand the grievousness of what they have done. They are incapable of recognising the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction you get from a job well done.
It sounds odd, but I feel pity for them. Imagine going through life that way. Snatched moments of glee through wanton destruction and causing others pain. Never knowing or understanding the joy of working with kindred spirits to create something....

Obviously I feel a good deal worse for the victims that have poured their time, skill and money into this show.
Does anyone know of a just giving page or similar for the group. Money won’t be the simple answer, but it may help.

They should be made to rot in jail until they have repaired or recreated every single thing they broke.

Without reading it I assume the word scum comes up quite a lot and probably capital punishment and torture for the vandals (because vandalism is worse than torture and murder of course)

Edit. Just looked scum was in the first reply....

Yes, mass extermination has also been suggested. It doesn't take much for the "wipe 'em out brigade" to leap to their keyboards.

Had a quick look at the other thread and decided to leave it to the internet vigilantes and their competitive urge to come up with ever crueller punishments.

Someone asked for the just giving page

https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/market-dee...

The fund is just about to hit £44k which at least shows that people care enough to give a little to help in whatever way money can in this situation. Personally, I have just given a small donation to show that I care and in the hope that something good can come of this horrible incident.

Donated. Although it'll be more of a token of support than much use in terms of the modelling time lost to these scum. Up to over £45k now, which shows that a lot of people actually care about this stuff.

And, if anyone thinks this is a new or specifically modern phenomenon, 30 odd years ago, my local model railway enthusiast group had their premises broken into and many of their layouts wrecked.

It was a very traumatic time for the railway club when the break in occurred and they upped their security big time as a result - including bricking up the windows of the club house leaving only high level skylights in their place.

I am a member of Farnborough IPMS and we use the railway modellers' clubhouse as the venue for our monthly meetings

I wonder how much it would cost to hire some overnight security for their subsequent shows?
