I'm going to go Rolf on this (and no not f**k kids)
Can you tell what it is yet?!

I have to go aroud the edges to smooth them down a bit. The masks are a terrible fit, but I've to mask off a few places not in the original set, so I'll fix them up before painting. Which should be fun, hopefully a 4 stage paint job, if my can of top coat still works, half a can that's been sitting in a box for a couple of years.

Did you keep the headlight covers / lids from the off-cuts? You can fit them flush (ie. un-opened) if you paint those.

I kept, then subsequently lost mine. Now have this exact shell sat un-painted in the shed laugh

Yeah a new 1/10 RX7 shell, originally planned on putting it on my 4WD drift chassis, but it needs a lot of new parts, most of which are neigh on impossible to get hold of now or they're gone to silly prices. Looking at full RWD chassis only kits now, they're pretty cheap compared to buying them with electronics which I have and all are working perfect.

Yeah I still have them, I'm not sure if I'll use them or mount the headlights, I have lots of led lights sitting in a box, and the front of the shell has a lot of lights, which should look good all finished

Thanks for that, you've just reminded me that I have a 1/10 scale Mk 2 MX-5 shell sat doing nothing - and will probably never do anything! One for eBay, will have to charge up the camera batteries tomorrow.

Cant wait to see it painted.

What colour are you going for? Is that a black base with the purple on top? Never done this sort of spraying, I usually just do diecast cars in a couple of different scales.

Usually black/darkest first on bonnet, then remove masking and lighter colour, backed with a lighter colour again. This time light colour (purple) backed with pearl white, to give it a little peal coming through purple, then backed with black to give it a deep finish. Pics coming up

first colour purple, backed with pearl white, masking removed from bonnet, door edges, and front splitter

black coated on clear pieces, and another couple of coats to cover the whole shell, masking cut on windscreen, on the outside to give a matte sunstrip

all painted, now to get an idea how it looks...

looking good so far, lets get the masking off and see how it looks

the purple was an absolute b'stard, might as well have been spraying coloured water, pearl white was actually thicker and better coverage. Still worth it though.
