It’s been a while since I did a build thread, so thought I’d share my current project.

Revells 2015 tool FW190 F8

I’m going to take this one nice and slow for a change (we’ll see how long that lasts)

It’s going to be an out of the box build with the exception of a pilot figure from aires.

As normal with these things we start with the cockpit. The pilot wasn’t the greatest fit and a bit of fettling was needed to make everything fit.

Once that was sorted I got the base colours on the figure. There’s still plenty of washes and shading to do...

Hopefully I’ll make so,e progress on the cockpit over the weekend.

Is that an unusual seating position for the pilot? I thought they all sat as though on a chair...I suppose the FW190 is quite compact.

Ze Germans realised that if the pilots legs were stretched out flat they could pull more G in manoeuvres as all the blood didn't pool in their lower legs as much. The bf109 is similar.

Thanks for the feedback.

I did some mediocre washes on the pilot and I am going to call him “done” at this point.
I’m pleased with how he turned out, but am a little disappointed that his head seems a little on the large side. I don’t suppose it will be noticeable on the completed kit though.
As this kit comes with a stand I’m going to go for a wheels up, in flight look for a change.

Thank you, did wonder if that sort of thing might be a reason for it.

Back on topic...
Pilot looks very realistic, great work!

It’s actually coming together pretty quickly. I don’t know why I put off building it for so long. Mind you I’ve still got the fully detailed engine to do and that’s going to be a pain in the arse.
So I’ve done the insides of the fuselage halves and a few other bits and bobs required for assembly.

I closed the fuselage up. I still need to work on the seam, but it’s not too bad.
I then added the front firewall / bulkhead. With the addition of this piece the assembly suddenly becomes a lot less fragile feeling. I’m really liking how this is going together at the moment. A really nice kit.

Thanks.

I’ve been messing around with oil paints on figures. So much easier to use than acrylics for figures and washes. It makes something that was a chore quite fun.

I love the change of look of the pilot in between the wash and the oils stage.
Video tutorial maybe one day?
I have a similar figure for one of my 1/24 planes.

It’s actually really simple. When I finish this build I’ll try and do a step by step guide.

Video is a bit beyond my comfort zone. I thought go pro was something that happened to rugby union in the 1990s.

And tonight’s progress gives me something vaguely FW190 shaped.

It couldn’t last forever.
The engine has proved to be a real pain in the arse as predicted.
Fortunately it will be mostly invisible as I am going to permanently fix the cowlings in the closed position.
Getting everything lined up and fitting the exhausts has been frustrating to say the least. I have also fitted it to the fuselage and will post pictures tomorrow, but to be honest it looks a bit of a mess.

Looking great - love that figure, and would also learn a lot from a step-by-step.

For the guys who would find it useful I’ll put something together. Honestly there’s nothing to it and it doesn’t even take very much time.

Until then, this is how the 190 currently looks.

I don’t think they figured anyone would put it together with all the panels shut, because to be honest it the engine doesn’t really fit inside. Still I’ve done my best and hopefully the pilot will distract close scrutiny....
