My daughter is amassing quite a bit of lego that we need to store when split up.

I've seen that Lego do the yellow storage heads but id be buying these blind and not able to see how big and therefore how much lego they would hold. I don't think they would be that easy to get the pieces out of without emptying them out all over the floor, and its generally me or the wife who have to put the pieces back before the dog gets them.

Does anybody have the large Lego heads and care to comment on how much they hold?

You might be better off with some really useful boxes with tray inserts.

Reviews advise that the inside base is not flat, but has a ring in the bottom about 5mm wide and 5cm deep, so any small pieces get jammed in there. Similar problem/design to the Lego brick storage boxes.

Yes we have one, it's not used for Lego storage as its not that big. We have stacking storage boxes with lids for that instead. Multiple heads will not be easy due to their shape.

We used to use Ikea Fira plywood boxes which came with wide flat drawers so you could look for pieces without emptying them out. Also lots of different choices of drawer sizes. They were great.

Not sure they still sell them fortunately. They seem to have something called Moppe instead which is a much more limited range.

Toolboxes and/or fishing tackle boxes have always served me well for lego storage - multi-trayed and multi-compartmented on a good number of those trays.

100% this.

We have a medium Lego head, there isn't any Lego in it anymore for this reason.

Just pick up some large clear boxes/storage trays from your local "bargain" store. Does the job a lot better.

Thanks for the replies.

I had discounted the lego ranges as id seen some online reviews that didn't endear them to me.

I'm just going to get some cheap storage boxes to put it all in.

You need a big drawsting bag that lies flat.

Faster, quieter and much less stressfull to tidy up.
