Gents, apologies if this has already been discussed, a quick search didn’t give me anything.

The small boy is six. He’s had a little cheap buggy from amazon since Christmas and likes it.

The rear suspension mount has snapped and is non-repairable.

So, time to step up.
I’d like a hornet (I’ve always wanted one and now I have an excuse), but I’ve got concerns that it’s possibly too quick and will be treated “roughly”.

I imagine the boy would prefer a monster truck type thing.

Any recommendations for something robust that a six year old can jump off kerbs and if it breaks can be repaired?

You want a nice monster truck or buggy of some kind.

Big tyres and running lipo. Get a decent one and turn down the esc so it doesn't allow him to have 100% power, start at like 20/30% and build up as he gets better driving it.

There are loads of makes about that can give you something like this so check out Wheelspin Models or similar for some ideas and budget.

My daughter uses one of my rock crawlers as its nice and slow and will climb up almost anything and shes been doing that since she was 3.

Although, it’s most the way towards a lunchbox... smile

If you want a half decent little car and save a few quid over a lunchbox (which arent actually all that to drive!), then you cant go far wrong with an FTX car.

FTX Vantage or Carnage are great starting points.

You can get better cars, you can get faster cars and of course you can spend more and get Brushless - but where do you draw the line? We sell a lot of these and they offer great value for money and are pretty cheap/simple to fix if you really smash it up.

Cheers...

+1 for the FTX range. Rarely beaten on value for money and easily found cheap spares for a hobby grade buggy.

Thanks very much. I suspect that the outlaw is exactly what he wants. I presume it’s the same running gear?

Its quite a bit different, the rear end anyway. I dont have a huge amount of experience with it, but looking at the chassis Id say its not going to be as durable as the Vantage and Carnage as they are more simple bath tub chassis.

We used to sell them and still would if stock was more readily available. Great cars but terrible distribution, I would be concerned about spares availability.

I used to run a 6S Arrma Kraton and it was an absolute animal - drive it at anything and it would just find a way to power through or over it!

hi guys, I have the same situation as the OP I have a 6 yr old that I would like a building project to do together, he loves his current cheap RC car, but something like a Hornet would be ace (cough cough for both of us). looking at some vids online I have two concerns, there does not seem a lot to the build, plus a lot of the steps seem very fiddly.

Anyone else with some other suggestions ?

My kid got a cheap drone from his uncle.
He now only wants things that can fly.
