I have the idea that I would like to motorise the new Lego Mack model, I think a full remote forward/backward steering left to right kind of thing, not sure about doing the container cranes at this stage, I am just interested in driving it around the front room.

I have never tried to motorise a Lego model and have no idea what kit to buy to set me on the right track, the fitting and modifying is no problem but I don't know what size of motor to buy or what sort of remote set up to use.

has anyone got any recommendations they can share ?

Thanks in advance.

Have a look at motors and speed controllers (ESC) designed for 1/10th scale rock crawlers. High turn motors designed to run at low speeds.

A 2.4ghz radio set is better than the older 40mhz or 27mhz surface vehicle kit, and means you can run as many channels as you need by going for a transmitter designed for aircraft use.

You'll need a channel each for the motor and steering, plus one for each additional function - crane/winch, lighting, sound, etc.

LiPo batteries will give you a longer run time than the old school NiMH type.

A bit of looking about and it seems lego do a low speed high torque motor, I think that may well form the basis of the drive, I can play with gearing to get it to go at a sensible speed but not be too slow to start.

As for the steering I will look at that in a bit. Does anyone have experience of the S brick?
