I am thinking of replacing some of the decals on my F1 models for full tobacco sponsorship versions. Before I go ahead and order the decals, is it easy to remove the existing decals? I assume it's just a case of wetting the decals to remove?

Any advise appreciated!

Depends on how old, the quality of the originals and how well they were applied. Some might flake off, others you might not get off at all. Try Micro Sol to soften them, but be prepared for hassle.

Are these plastic kits or metal models?

Are you trying to remove specific decals without damaging the underlying paint or other decals?

Brake fluid works on clear parts. I also use rubbing compound aswell.

Acetone-free nail varnish remover also works but can make clear parts foggy.

Thanks for the replies guys. They are Minichamps models, and it's the Rothmans decals I want to apply on all of my Villeneuve cars.

But only replacing "Racing" with "Rothmans"?

Yes, just need some advise before I get the decals.

That is especially tricky because you are trying to remove decals from a very confined space without doing any damage to the surrounding area or other markings.

Metal polish (Autosol or similar), a fire, a good film and a blunted cocktail stick.

Take your time, apply minimal pressure, and polish the print away which relaxing in from of the telly. Go too fast or too hard and you'll burn through the paint.

I've removed decals from railway models with T Cut on a cotton bud, worked for me.
