I thought I'd try a slightly older Revell kit for a change.

No individual sprue shots for this one, just an assembled shot.

There's a fully detailed engine and opening bonnet, so you can at least see the your work (unlike the Honda nsx)
I started by removing all the parts that will be body coloured.

I assembled the body. This might make final assembly a bit more tricky, but enabled me to fill and sand the joins for a better finish.

Here are the parts ready for paint

A shot of the painted body. I decided to go with red not silver.(more shiny)

Finally I have masked the windows ready for a coat of semi gloss black

Added the black wheel arch extensions and sill protectors.

Started on the engine bay. I'm going to have the bonnet shut, so it's only a quick job. I did add some HT leads, just for a bit of practice.

Great work so far, this is a fairly new casting. One I need to build if only I could get S2 rear lights I could build like my old one

I'm not sure if this helps or not - I remembered this German place from an old post on here

This takes me back more than 30 years.

Me and a friend spent a week or two of our summer holidays building this - or one like it.

Our village had a motor factors. We checked through VW brochures and chose a shade of blue.

It looked great until we decided a few weeks later to make a body kit for it out of plastic card.

Ugly and badly fitted. Probably much like a real body kit of that era.

The car ended its days facing the business end if my mate's air rifle.

Minor update:

The body is almost finished.

Hopefully there should be more pictures later.

I finished it last night.

To be honest the final assembly was a disaster. This is not a kit I would recommend.

I was so piddled off with it I sought revenge with a custom ariel.

The pictures were taken before a final once over so the odd marks are now gone.

The centre caps on the wheels are meant to be black, but it's either leave it as it is or bin it. Bloody thing!

In summary

Detail - 10/10 - lots of detail including seat belts, grab handles, and a fully detailed engine.
Moulding - 7/10 - pretty good although not quite as sharp as Tamiyas more recent efforts.
Engineering - 2/10 - fit on the parts is terrible. If you follow the instructions it would be easier, but then you'd be painting the body after everything else was installed. On reflection I should have done a lot more trial fitting.
Value - 8/10 - it's half the price of a less detailed Tamiya kit.

Overall 6/10 - I would not recommend this kit at all.

Had one of these bought for my 50th. Sat down to build it on Saturday and realised there’s no paint inside.

The mate who bought it did buy me a pot of orange paint so I could replicate the car I actually had. But I hadn’t factored in all the other parts that needed painting. Darn it.

Off to the model shop it is.
