A bit more PH build, Tamiyas 1/6 Honda CB-750F in progress

Quite an old kit, and it shows in places, very heavy chrome (removed a lot of it, bleach works a treat) fit is a bit iffy in places and lots of seam lines on everything.
Question for the expert modellers - got to do the exhausts, which are chrome plated on the real thing, but have a lot of seam lines and fit issues that require sanding and possibly filling, is it better to keep most of the original finish and touch up or strip & paint? Been experimenting but can't find a chrome paint that is anything but slightly shiny silver, but not tried alclad yet.

Superb build so far.
Re the chrome - you said you’d stripped the vacuum plated stuff, but there are a couple of silver engine covers that look really good; what did you paint those with?
Alclad II would work, but you must use a primer when applying on plastic, and have a perfectly polished gloss black base coat.

The chrome engine covers are the original kit chrome, I deliberately din't strip those as the cut marks and seems are small and easily hidden.
Most of the painting is tamiya rattlecans, although I've been playing a bit with the airbrush.
Alclad would be a total experiment, and the exhausts are likely to make of break the overall kit, especially as I've never been any good at polishing.

Help - starting to paint the bodywork, some googaling suggested candy red was achievable by spraying Tamiya Clear Red over Gold.
Test piece & side pod came out alright

However somehow on the fuel tank the two paints seemed to react with each other (test piece on left)

Options seems to be
1) strip & start again, possibly with a less ambitious colour. I think I still have some brake fluid left over from my 1:1 Caterham build that I've used successfully in the past. Original colours where Black, Silver or Red.
2) weather the out of it to make a 80's bike that hasn't had any TLC for the last decade or so, possibly adding a bit of road rash

Mechanical bits less exhaust complete

Just need to strip the existing chrome off the downpipes & alclad them back up and repaint the bodywork.

Exhaust downpipes are Alclad Chrome - I struggled to get a decent finish to be honest, silencers are trimmed with BMF, sideguards are original kit chrome.
