Just had a day on the excellent Churnet Valley steam railway today in Staffordshire and picked up a copy of this.... I have been after it for a long time, expensive at twenty pounds but well worth it and packed with interesting info.

Not my thing, but as observations;

You've been after it for some time
It appears to be in pretty good nick
It was only 20 quid

Where does expensive come into it?

I take your point, but twenty pounds is quite a lot when I try pick most of my stuff up from Charity/secondhand bookshops for around three quid, but the chance of me finding this particular book would probably be zilch.

Last month I bought a rare motorcycle hardback book that was in mint unopened condition for £6.00. Four or five shops down the street in a well known new bookshop exactly the same book was £25.00 so naturally I was quite pleased..smile

This Hornby book was brand new, the photograph was one I lifted from Google images btw.

As an added bonus my purchase was supporting the heritage railway.

They are great books. I got most of mine from a cheap bookshop in Meadowhall years ago for a few quid each. Couldn't believe it.

My favourite is the Meccano Magazine Anthology.

Talking of Dublo, a pal of mine made me some display cases for my late Dads old Dinky toys and Hornby trains. They were his pride and joy, but spent their lives in boxes on the loft. Not any more!

I think the tanker wagons are works of art (wife disagrees).

My dad used to own a couple of model shops in the Manchester area in the 1960's, so as a young kid I grew up surrounded by loads of this stuff, both two and three rail.. he was probably one of the biggest Meccano/Hornby/Dinky dealers in the North at the time, behind Hattons in Liverpool.

Looking through this book brings back many happy memories.

I'll have to keep my eye out for the others to complete the series.

Cheers for the replies...smile

I'm with you on that. It's just a case of dropping on these things, and if you want it that badly then sometimes you have to pay the price. I'm much happier to have paid £2 for a copy of "Above Paris" from the local car boot sale than the £25 a reasonably local secondhand bookshop wants for their copy, but the difference is that it's not something I've been trying to track down for ages, just something keep the other two company. I've got all the Rallycourse up to long after the year I lost interest in rallying, so now I need another set to collect.
