Restoring an old Citroen CX

Yes, you read that right, it is in the scale models section instead of readers cars...
This is my 1/18 Citroen CX 2200 which unusually for me, joined my collection as a second hand purchase. Normally I add to the collection with new models, however this particular CX was discontinued a while ago so I was going to be extremely lucky finding a new one sitting around. As it happened, after a while of searching, this CX appeared on French eBay, labelled as "Neuf". Sceptical, I purchased it and it eventually arrived in old Blighty.

The model had a few disappointing features, such as chipped paint in places, sagging headlining, the suspension was somewhat "deflated" (I know it's a CX and had hydropneumatic suspension, but the model didn't look quite "right"), bits of overspray and a rough texture on the rear door paintwork. Upon trying to fix the saggy headlining, I managed to spill a drop of superglue on the inside of the rear windscreen, which really annoyed me.
So for the last few months the old CX has sat at the back of the collection, not getting much limelight and generally getting in the way. All of the other Citroens are pretty much pristine, the CX was really the "runt of the litter" so to speak, therefore today I decided to finally get round to sorting it out. The aim is to strip it down, fix everything that needs fixing, clean everything up and add a few extra features to bring it up to standard.
Today I dismantled it and rebuilt the suspension, now that the CX is sitting correctly I'm tackling the bodywork and making a new rear windscreen. I love the fact that some of the screws in the suspension had begun to rust, authentic CX trait right there!
We will also be adding scratchbuilt front and rear fog lights, possibly a full respray too depending what I can do with the rear doors.

Must admit I'm not particularly a Citroen type of person, but I appreciate seeing nice models, and the ones in your photo do look excellent together.

Thanks. I appreciate that Citroen doesn't have the largest following compared to other marques, I can't put my finger on exactly what appeals about them to me. However, a nice model collection can appeal to a far greater audience than just Citroen enthusiasts as you suggest. I'm hoping that once finished this model will suitably fit in with the rest of the collection and be somewhat better quality than previously. Good luck with the restoration.
The collection is growing at a rate faster than I can recondition or "restore" some of the cars, I'm hoping once finished however the CX will look stunning amongst the other cars.

Give it time I reckon they'll become classics, but not in the numbers of the DS. The most desirable models seem to be the early Series 1, with the chrome bumpers. Unfortunately most surviving CXs appear to be the later cars with plastic bumpers, as the early ones have all rotted away. The model has had to go on hold for a while now as I'm away on work, hopefully it'll be finished by the end of August however.

Lovely. I see that you've adopted the registration of the first (LHD) CX to be sold in the UK. Not in the UK, they haven't, and with fewer than 200 CXs of any description left on UK roads, perhaps they never will. They seem to be more highly prized in the Netherlands and Germany, with CX-Basis, which seems to have a near-monopoly on CX spare parts, blatantly profiteering on parts prices - the sort of tactic that makes UK preservation uneconomic if something major goes wrong.It hasn't stopped a couple of UK dealers trying their luck, though:
