There is a completed one (or one very much like it) in the window of the model shop in Dorking if you need some inspiration or to "acquire" some parts...

Good luck.

About 1:4
If 42" is 1/72nd scale (per OP's other post), then 42' will be 1/6th scale.

Quarter scale would be 63' !

I looked up the dimensions of the gun on t'internet and divided one by t'other, roughly in my head - wasn't supposed to be particularly accurate, just a jokette.

It'd be a bloody impressive model, mind.

Track bed in progress, I have mounted the bed on a a slab of wood to form the base of a custom built display case. 112 sleepers painted now to install the track, paint that and weather. Then I can start on the train itself

Trackbed finally finished, I have decided to weather the model as a whole when it is finished.

A little more progress, close to 400 hours in on this build. I have decided for scale to build two 1/72 German locomotives from the period. I reckon to be close to another 350 to finish then to construct a custom Perspex case.

At 1:72 that is huge, great modelling. Are there any of these kicking around full size in museums?

None left I'm afraid they were all destroyed during the war.
I have decided to give some scale to the model and have two German wartime trains in the same scale, one diesel and one steam
