Just for a change. Another mini....
Discussion
Now this may come as a surprise, but I'm not a massive mini fan. It's a coincidence that my next project is the same as the last.
A good friend is turning 40 this year and he is a mini fan. As a present I decided to have a go at recreating his actual car.
Here's the car in question.
I think it's a good looking car. It does however present a number of issues.
1. I don't think anyone makes a mini kit featuring the sportpack
2. 13" minilite are an issue.
3. There isn't a transkit or detail up parts for either (that I could find anyway)
That's why I created another thread asking if anyone could help with either.
I found a late mini kit from fujimi to use as a base.
As there was no other choice I had to make my own sportkit.
I cut some strips from styrene sheet, secured them around a container of approximately the correct diameter and then laminated another styrene strip on top. I hoped this would help them stay round.
I then did a bit of shaping and fettling and fitted them to the body.
Added some primer
And ten some paint
The wheels the came with the kit weren't going to work
I found some resin 13" minilites for a mk1 escort on tinternet.
Close enough to pass for the real ones.
And that's where I'm currently up to.

I rather like that! How did you make the number plates, are they etched metal...?
They are foil letters I managed to find online. They are manufactured by BECC models in Croydon. They do kits the normal yellow and white ones as well.
You get 1:18 (4mm) and 1:24 (3mm) in the kit with some number plate blanks. The letters are die cut, but you need to cut out the number plates.

Back to the project. I have ordered some film for the windows and won a part built mk1 cooper on the bay. I will use the bumpers (with overiders) from that kit
That just leave me with the wing mirrors and exhaust to sort out.
Ok so I am more or less finished with this now.
I bought a part built mk1 kit for its bumpers, found some cheap window tint film on amazon and made some mirrors from styrene rod, various abrasives and a pistol drill. (That was fun!)
A few bits left to button up.

Once I finish the last few details I'll give it a bit of. A clean to remove my grubby fingerprints (that's not as easy as on the tellie)
