I need to buy two lads r/c cars so they can race each other. Ideally they will be the same model but available in different colours. They need to be tough and have good battery life.

Budget is about £150 per car.

Any suggestions guys please?

On road or off road is the first question

But the answer will probably be a Tamiya of some sorts

Tamiya Grasshoppers. You can have any colour you like as long as it's white, but a Humbrol rattle can will take care of that.

Probably an FTX Carnage or Vantage would be your best bet. Brushed versions just over £100, brushless nearer £180 so a bit over budget. Only issue is they only do one colour but you may well be able to get replacement body shells in different colours.

There is this one (FTX Edge) that comes in both red and blue, bargain at £85: http://www.jadlamracingmodels.com/ftx-edge-1-10-re...

Maverick Strada is similar to the above-mentioned FTX models - it's a sub-brand of HPI.

Similar prices and specs, with a similar difficulty of only one colourway available.

They're good and all the spares are available for when they get broken (which they will, lots!)

Over budget but worth it

This isnt a bad shout, Carnage and Vantage are ok - ive used them several time and are pretty hard to beat for a cheap RTR.

Edge sells very well, but havent tried one myself. Although quite handy in the Red and Blue...

The Edges arrived.

One of them was battered inside the box, apparently having at some point been shipped not strapped down. Before being sent to me an electrician's zip tie had been used to secure it - it wasn't a factory one. So both plastics (albeit the poly covers) and the inner box mashed. The decal set was also missing.

Someone there knew it wasn't in retail condition and it should not have been sent out. I'm not impressed with Jadlam Racing Models poor service to be honest.

It remains to be seen what the cars are like in use. They look like good value, but I wonder how long they will run for and how durable they are. They have clearly been buit down to a price. They will either be a disappointment or a real bargain.

I'm sure Russ won't be pleased to hear that. I expect he'll respond.

Sorry to hear about this. But it's very likely an issue with our supplier or a simple mistake, please let me explain before you write us off...

Put bluntly we don't have the time to fart about with repackaging cars and being an avid RC fan myself would not allow a car in said state to be shipped. Any returned products are either shipped back to the manufacturer or sold as a return via a different channel..
We have actually had an experience similar to this in the past and ultimately it's been the distributor's budget conscious mentality. Whilst they are normally great they don't like replacing stuff and always want to repair and fix etc - which in some cases is not good enough. So it's quite possible that the car you have received is a return from another shop, the distributor has fixed it up and sold to us as new in a large shipment. (They are always running out of edges too!)

Alternatively it could be a basic mix up in our warehouse where a returned product has mistakenly ended up in stock (very unlikely, but not impossible considering we are moving hundreds of pieces per week.)

So to re-iterate, this is not normal and not acceptable, please accept my apologies. I'd be more than happy (as would my customer service team) to replace and investigate further or just offer you a partial refund if the car all looks good...

You say you are disappointed with our service, therefore I assume you have spoken to somebody at our end and you are not happy with their response? Or are you just referring to the receipt of the order?

Stick me an email through here, just go into my profile and send me a message and I'll sort you out personally.

Cheers.

Russ

Someone knew the item wasn't fit for retail, that's for sure. If it was your supplier they need a kick in the arse. But when all is said and done I bought it from Jadlam.

Tomorrow I'll be giving as a gift something that may or may not be working correctly, in a fcked box without its decals. That doesn't make me very happy.

When I refer to "service" I was referring to the item being shipped substandard. I did send an email first thing today but have had no response. I am not sure whether your guys are working today, though, given that it's Easter.

Thank you for your offer of assistance, I'll drop you a line when I know whether it works or not.

I don't necessarily agree and can't really comment without extra info. But please be aware It's not in our interest to sell substandard stock as it causes grief to all departments...
What is the condition of the product box? If the product box is damaged and obviously used then somebody needs a stiff talking to as it should have been checked...BUT if the box looks like any other new box then we'd have been blissfully unaware of the contents as we don't physically check the internals of every product.

If you can send any photographs via email it would be appreciated.

Also my suggestion is that if you are unhappy with the condition of the car then you do not use it at all, I.e you rejecting it and we will arrange a return and replacement ASAP. Whilst I understand this doesn't help your gift situ tomorrow I don't want the car to have hidden problems that causes you issues further down the line...which may not be covered by warranty etc once the car has been used for a while.

Customer service team are on reduced hours this weekend.

Thanks.

The tyres don't look like the model has been used, but perhaps that's because there was an out of box failure? The receiver was switched on if that indicates anything, whereas the other one was off.

Here's a snap of the inside of the box. You can also see the electrician's cable tie. I wish I'd taken a snap of the body shell before I removed the polythene, but my immediate reaction was "st, how can I make this look better?".

The contents look like they've been out, even if the model doesn't look like it's been used. Presumably that's why the decals are missing.

To be honest I don't think not using it tomorrrow is a consideration. I'll explain the situation to the lad and see if it works. If it doesn't I trust there will be no problems returning it.

Okay, we've taken the Edges out twice and I am quite impressed.

They are quick and manoueverable. and the battery lasts a long time. I didn't time them but I'd estimate they ran for 30 plus minutes, which is better than the previous RC cars they had.

So far, I'd say they are very good VFM.

New body shell with decals received today. Thanks for sorting it out, Russ.
