Ferrari 250LM - Airfix 1/32
Discussion
One I started because my model club is holding a competition entitled "Civilian Vehicles".
It's the first car model I have built in a very long time. It's fairly basic - as you might expect from a set of moulds that date back to 1967. I presume it was also available in Airfix's Slot Car series - which was their rival format to Scalextric.
The plan is to complete it in the colours of Maranello Concessionaires
The model is almost finished so I will be able to [post up some pictures by the end of the week.

This has long been on my list of kits to build, if I can find one. This series of kits (Mini, Lotus Cortina etc) did indeed share bodyshells with the slot racing versions. They just had different lower halves with provision for clipping in the slot guide, motor etc. In fact I seem to remember - this was in about 1970) having a Ford 3-itre prototype, but it was easily outclassed by the Scalextric cars of the day (I had a Ferrari P4 and a Lambo Muira).
The Airfix Ford 3L is another I'd like to build - again, if I can find one. I gave up trying to find it in 1/43 scale a long time ago.

I've never actually built a non military kit that I can recall, I really ought to give it a go sometime methinks.
I was waiting for the pictures taken at my local club night to appear on the club website. However, as they haven't appeared yet, I've taken my own. Here's the finished model. The main area I'm disappointed with is that the roundels were on the thin side.
I replaced the kit wheels with better items designed for slot cars.

Shame about the number discs, but at least they give you the decals - in my day they were printed on the instruction sheet and you had to cut them out and glue them on. The number plates in the Mini, Sprite, Rapier, etc, kits were the same.
I'd have been tempted to give the whole car a coat of white, mask off where the discs were to go, then spray the red.
And you must tell us where you found the wheels (you may be interested to know that some later versions of this car used alloys instead).

Wheels came from these guys. very prompt service too -

Next time I will definitely mask off the disc area first before painting the main colours.

The Airfix F3L is currently in production - my local model shop has them. Grand Prix Models have them from 4 different manufacturers, 2 in 1/43rd.The Airfix Ford 3L is another I'd like to build - again, if I can find one. I gave up trying to find it in 1/43 scale a long time ago.
Pattos Place is a good source for a huge range of racing car decals in scales from 1/10 to 1/64.

I bought a Minichamps Ford 3L on eBay a couple of years back for £17. Provence Moulage used to do a resin kit but you try finding it now.
While on the GPM website I was looking at Coopers as I'd like a F3 to replace my old John Day one (bought in 1988 and still not built) but they want nearly £50 for a kit!
