After some intense discussions, I managed to convince SWMBO that we need a glass, backlit display cabinet covering one of the walls in the hall.
I have something like this in mind:
(without locks and hopefully with less obtrusive hinges.

Can anyone give some tips as to who can build these or did anyone build one of these themselves/

Cheers!

Sorry but that looks pretty nasty IMO. More like something you'd see at a dental surgery.

I accept the challenge, what other styles should I consider?

Will you be displaying a range of branded garments and goods for your visitors to buy as a memento of their visit, like hotels do?

That wasn't quite the plan, I'd rather display some 80 scale models (1:18)

Any clues what is available and looking good (and not like a medical/hotel/retail display)?

Perhaps consider Ikea Detolf cabinets (with additional top down light). Not backlit but displays 1/18s really well (plus it is possible to add additional shelving).

If it has to be wall mounted, perhaps the Ikea Bertby is worth a look? Lighting will have to be a custom job and afaik they are NLA. frown
