OO Gauge 10x4 help please.
Discussion
In the past a built an N gauge layout in a coffee table and was enjoyable in the building phase but just lacked the sense of scale and speed that OO gauge gives especially when slow running,So OO gauge it was and started by buying a Bachmann dcc starter set with 2 loco's and the ez-command controller.
I needed the layout to be 10x4 and as light as possible but sundeala board was too costly so a 10x4 slab of Kingspan which is 120mm thick was purchased second hand for £20.00 and a stud walling timber frame mounted with no more nails for added rigidity.
I came across some pool table oak legs that finish it off o.k.,bought some oak effect laminate flooring from B&Q for only £3.00 and that has now been bonded to the side of the foam and have left a lip of about 5cm's on top.
Have just bought a desiro 4 car emu and chipped it and also have a Hornby super detail class 08 which is chipped as well and both run great.
The only problem i have is i have built lots of Metcalff buildings/embankments etc and now have to figure out a plan,I have some half relielf shops which will be on a roadway on the embankment with a sky backdrop and can also get 2 continuous loops on the foam.
As it is dcc al i did to the points was add a staple to make them live,as the foam is 120mm deep in can go 80mm deep without concern.
The train set now looks like a piece of furniture and can be easily moved into the middle of the room to work on,sorry for the crappy pictures but you should have some idea about what i'm waffling on about.

The mistake most people make when they build a layout is putting in too much clutter. Level crossings that connect to roads leading nowhere, tunnels that look like they have been designed in rather than a practical way of getting through the topography, every form of building known to man in one street and stations that are a few inches apart. Keeping it minimalist and simple not only looks better but gives the layout a certain atmosphere.

Just in front of the shops will be a road that will join the lower part of the layout and was built high as with only 4ft width i can get 3 loops in the space,I know what you mean about clutter but i don't have to use any buildings really and am just blagging it as i go along.Edited by Razor O Rourke on Wednesday 8th March 11:08
Was thinking about some hills to the left of the shops to make it more interesting.
Thanks for your comments though.
