I decided that after 15 years My Tiger 1 needed some opposition, so the postman brought this:

And here's the hull next to the Tiger

Apologies for the phone photos - battery died on the proper camera.

Looking forward to this as have been musing if I should have a go at building one instead of another RC car.
Are you going for many upgrades or sticking to the box?.
I've got the Aber photo etch set, and a couple of bits by Schumo, so not completely OOB.Are you going for many upgrades or sticking to the box?.
Soldering photoetch is a new technique I'm using - not gone perfectly so far, so it looks like authentic soviet welding
Not done a lot today apart from putting primer on the wheels. I tend to use a paint sub assemblies as I go method, then weather the complete model once finished.
Not sure how much weathering to do, most examples didn't survive long enough in Russian service to get very dirty. Of 350 built most were lost in 1941/42, although 6-10 did take part in Kursk in 1943, only one was serviceable afterwards. The Germans seemed to get more use of their captured examples, the last one in action was in 1945 against the US.
I'm going to get battle systems for both tanks, no pint in having 2 without.
Some evidence, maybe not conclusive, nothing about the KV-2 seems to be.
Possible alternative colour scheme - seems like the only historical accurate theme would be all over 4B0 green, no markings, no slogans, which is easy but slightly boring.
PS the Tiger is Tamiya as well

I built, then re-built (spent as much as the kit cost again on metal tracks and add on bits and peices) the Tamiya Tiger II kit. They are fun things to build and even in stock kit form go together very well. Its been a while since mine has rumbled up and down the driveway.
Looking forward to the build thread. On World of Tanks, the KV-2 is fun

Well it is about time i got into something that required me to do more than sort of aim a spray can at it once built, but i have no desire to go the the lengths that many seem to. I'm interested in the build and play and rebuild, not the painting to make it 'just so', although i do admire the work of those that do!
Hence a tank may well be in my near future - i have a June birthday and many close family who would happily spend £50 odd on me if i could only tell them what i wanted so might start letting it slip that a group buy with the Mrs on one of these would be a great and appreciated move!
Might have to look at the other tanks about though as i am finding the KV-2's looks rather challenging I know that they were built for function, not looks but damn that bad boy was hit with the biggest, meanest, ugly stick in the known universe!

Underside view of the photoetch rear exhaust deflector - already showing signs of wear

More photo etch - the original part is behind. And yes that is a tiny butterfly nut

Upper hull & turret built and painted in 4BO green, which is a totally different shade to the Tamiya dark green I used on the lower hull

So Option 1 repaint the lower hull & running gear in the correct colour or 2 go for the winter white-wash scheme like the small example in front.
As far as I can make out winter camouflage was extremely rare on the KV-2 in Russian service, with one known photograph, about 1/2 way down this thread.
