Hi folks, my dad is a keen builder of scale model boats usually all wood construction, not sure what the scale would be but most are less than 2 feet long.
I heard he fancies doing one of the italian wooden deck speedboats (i ve actually seen quite a few but they are all prebuilt!). I've had a look but dont see many has anyone got any ideas where to try?
many thanks

I know nothing about modelling, but the Riva Aquarama is probably going to be the easiest kit to source due to it being the most famous Italian wooden decked boat.

How's the budget?

A quick Google suggests you'll struggle.

Ironically, a ready built one is cheaper.

It's odd that there aren't more kits about. I wonder whether there is some sort of copyright on the design.

If he is a keen builder, a set of plans and suitable wood might be just as good if he has the tools to cut the timber himself. If not a scroll saw might be a good alternate present to allow him to build his own stuff from scratch.

There are a few accurate plans for Chris Crafts & Riva's out there, so accurate people build real ones from the kit plans!

mcdjl thanks for that link there are a couple of nice ones there that are very close!

I think I am going to go down the plans + laser cut parts mentioned above, we built a lot of boats from plans back in the day so think that will be fine!
