Apologies for the vagueness in advance, but I have a strange desire to buy a RC car of some description to release my inner kid...

I'm not a fan off the buggy type things, much prefer a car based kit however as great as some touring car esque stuff looks, I'd not be able to resist getting it grubby thus something more off road orientated would be better.

That in turn lead me on to "researching" the big baja trucks that seem to be extremely fast and capable of ploughing over and through most things or the bigger 4x4 truck esque efforts with huge suspension travel and huge speeds.

Appreciate the options are endless but say budget £200.00 (ish) for either a plug and play kit or something to build up and that can handle some abuse and dirt without running out of steam after 5mins, any recommendations?

Petrol appeals too but as this budget, is it perhaps more hassle than it's worth? Struggling a bit as ebay seems to be full of cheap looking stuff and I quite fancy something a bit quick / powerslidey but that won't exploded the first time I inevitably get it wrong whilst hunting the local cats.

Appreciate the budget may have to increase too / consider second hand etc

I had similar issues last xmas, albeit with the excuse of a son!

I got fantastic help here on the forum so it's only right I share the knowledge. The car is still fantastic. Other than the body shell it has been unbreakable and my son (ahem) still loves it.

I have gone back to Tamiya myself and have a Neo Scorcher, a Zakspeed Capri and a Super Clod buster.

For bashing about for an hour or so throwing in a corner and repeat perfect for me.

I'm looking at getting a Subaru or Lancia next.

You can go brushless for your budget and I hear lots of good things but the availability of spares and hop ups for Tamiya as well as logical and robust construction swings it for me.

Add to that a set of replacement wheels and tyres can be bought off Amazon for £10 so doing donuts on damp tarmac is almost guilt free hehe

Double your budget and get an Axial

RTR of both the above also available. The kits have some nice upgrades included though.

With LIPO batteries 30 min runs are easily achievable, so no point going nitro. Brushless gives more power and longer run times for more £.
