Delayed Lego Porsche GT3
Discussion
So before anyone asks - I didn't join the group buy as I live outside the UK and would have lost out on the exchange rate etc.
Called Lego Customer Services today as I ordered the GT3 just after midnight on June 1st and it is now not due to ship before July 29th.
Apparently the issue is with the design of the interior boxes that the components reside in - that during transport there is a chance they rub or bang into each other and get damaged, so again apparently, Lego are have to redesign and reproduce the interior boxes before shipping. This only affects products being sent from purchases via the Lego webshop and not items purchased directly from a Lego store (as these are collected in person).
Sounds plausible - but disappointing.
However Big Ben got delivered today

Spoken to my account manager and they've heard nothing about a delay due to packaging.
Soo.... either they are:
- Not important enough to know yet
- Its a load of bullst
- They are fixing it and it wont affect our batch for general release

I must admit I thought number 2 (no pun intended) until I got the mail below which makes me think number 3.
Dear Steven,
Thanks for getting in touch with us.
We’re happy to know you’re excited about the LEGO® Technic 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
Due to the way the box of the set is put together, we’ve found that there’s an increased risk of the box being damaged during shipping. We weren’t aware of this until very recently. Since we always want LEGO fans to have the very best, high-quality experience with any of our products, we’ve made the decision to postpone online sales temporarily.
The delay is solely due to the possible damage the box may receive during shipping and is in no way due to any issues with the model. You can find the LEGO Technic Porsche set at LEGO Stores currently. We’re working really hard on improving the packaging to make it available to buy online again as soon as we can.
We’re very sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment this has caused.
We want to make sure we're doing a good job for you, so you’ll always find the link to a four-question survey in our emails. Please tell us how we did today:

Please let us know if you need anything else.
Kind regards,
Onno
LEGO® Service
I picked one up from a store, it weighs in about 5KG's apparently, it is pretty heavy, probably half of it is the manual though.
I want it to draw attention in a couple of weeks, so I won't be opening it to check the internal boxes for rubbing as it will probably be sold on sealed.
Seeing it built in person, it is bigger than I imagined.
Not cheap though, but I guess it's like a "Technic Architecture" line.

So I had an email today that my GT3 has been shipped !
Lets see if it arrives early next week

Box is quite heavy, with a nice set of pictures of the evolution of the 911 on the inside of the lid, and the build handbook is thicker than a bible !
I look forward to getting some time build this one.
Interesting about the reason for the delay, I'd assumed some sort of component issue as opposed to a packaging / shipping one
Mine arrived yesterday having ordered it online on "launch" day. The build manual is massive (and lovely) and I thought most of that would be history and background to the car and the model itself ... 36 of the pages are, the rest
I also didn't realise it's a 1:8 scale model, so yeah, it's gonna be pretty big when built - I can confirm that the wheel diameter is fairly accurate as that's all I've looked at
Two weeks holiday coming up after this week, so very nicely timed indeed

So managed to pick up 2x GT3 RS, one from Lego.com and the other from a Lego store whilst I was on business in Germany.
Now I intend on building one with my lad and was thinking about sitting on the other one for some time.
Now my question is regarding the one I purchased in Germany. What language will the booklet be in?
Seems an obvious question but the packaging is in English on the outside and just trying to decide which one I open and build.
Anyone with any experience like this?

I cannot speak for Germany purchased sets - but I live in NL and purchase most Lego through the NL version of the Lego Online store (Dutch language version) and all my Lego sets and books are in English. Now I intend on building one with my lad and was thinking about sitting on the other one for some time.
