Hi

Any 'veterans' of Armortek beauties on here? I have put my name down for a Tiger when they next come around but would be interested to hear of anyone's experiences with the kits - good and bad.

TY!

I'm a veteran of several hours of reading build threads on the Armourtek forum - enough to know that I could never to justice to one, even if I could afford it.

I'd love to own one but I think the closest I could ever afford is the tamiya version.

That's my problem Iron; £5K on a tank scares me! i'm not overtly worried with painting/weathering as I'd rather see the tank naturally weather through usage but I do worry at the actual build and cocking up the filling, drilling...and £5k is 1/3 of the way to a Willys/Ford Jeep....if you get my drift.

Having seen them in the flesh I'd say they are worth it. Plus the building experience will be enjoyable. In my eyes I doubt I'd see much enjoyment from driving it but the build. What's the resale value like? Might be build, enjoy for 6 months then sell at not much of a loss?

Generally speaking, they sell at kit price. However, I am sketchy knowing what the kit price is in the first place? Can anyone help at all?

Dearest All

Had an e-mail from Armortek tonight. They are releasing a limited special edition kit centred around Tiger 131. And even though when I opened the e-mail I didn't need to place my deposit, I have. This will be on top of finishing off a house restoration then attacking a new build.....so in reality I can see the kit tucked up safely till I have the workshop I've wanted for ages. But what the hell, possession is 9/10th of the law isn't it?

It's the voices in my head, they take over....

Unmmmmmmm, no. I reminded her that we aren't married and even though we have lived together for 3 years, have a joint mortgage etc etc, don't be silly asking how much a model tank costs.....

What could possibly go wrong from here?

Only if you all promise to play nicely and not damage a 150 kilo tank?!

I read end to end last night a thread on the Revcounter about a bloke who built a Panther. Except he got to probably 60% and then the posts stopped cos (I think) he met a woman!

When I eventually start this 'toy' I might do a thread so as to give me less reason to bail out and let it collect dust. It is a big investment and easily in excess of one year to complete so needs discipline on my part.

I am nervous of the skills i will have to master like painting, using metal, making things fit that are out of alignment, etc, but don't know of a better kit to have a go on. I used to love making Tamiya as a kid but always felt a tad frustrated at the eventual outcome. Scale model aeroplanes never appealed to me either. When they get so big that you need to inform the CAA to get permission to fly one I think you may as well bite the bullet and build a full scale!

As i haven't a hope in hell of ever owning a piece of 1:1 German Armour, the Armortek seems a good compromise. Although again, I've wrestled with the thought that the eventual model will stand me @£5.5k which would have bought a nice Lightweight Landie to rebuild or gone towards Willy Jeep.

Conumdrums conumdrums but I am lucky to be able to buy one in the first place so am thankful for that.

Are you aware of/familiar with Tamiya's 1/16 full option radio controlled kits? They're absolutely top notch, and sub £1k (or were - not checked in a while).

You can also get a "battle system" for them so if you get two, you can have tank battles...much fun biggrin

The Tamiya ones are great kits but they are models whereas the 1/6 scale are an engineering toy. It's hard to explain but they aren't comparable.

Make sure you get the blank firer
