tamiya m04 chassis
Discussion
I really fancy a new toy and I think that will take the form of a re release tamiya eunos.
Its based on the m04 chassis, what's it like? I'm only going to be playing with the car its not going to be raced but I had a mardave mini stock years back and it was useless as it wouldn't run outside on roads and pavements as the slightest chipping or stone would make it bounce all over the place.
I also fancy a 4wd rally car, something that will tackle dirt but not full on off road, any good re releases to be aware of? Especially something like a lancia delta or escort cosworth.

M04 is great, although it has been superseeded by the M06 now.
The M04 is an older design, based on the single-monocoque chassis that made up the TL01 and M03 family. The TL01 is a wider, 4wd touring car and the M03 is a front-wheel-drive narrow chassis (for the Mini and others).
As a result the parts support is quite vast - but parts are slowly being discontinued.
The allure is the bodyshell, the Eunos shell is fantastic. I built one about 10 years ago and it looked fantastic, sadly I had to sell it to raise some cash.
In terms of the chassis, it's very durable and nimble - however it is difficult to drive 'quickly'. You'll never keep up with anything front-wheel drive or 4wd. RWD on-road is quite a niche! It's very challenging as well since you spend a lot of the time spinning out.
All in all a good little car and well worth the money. I'd try to source an M06 if you could however, if the shell means that much to you then source one separately (often easier said than done)

I bought an M04 years ago (a Eunos too) just to get the RWD gubbins together so I could build a Twin Engined thing.

I still have it, I should probably disassemble the Twinnie, and build the M04 properly, to go with my 1:1 Eunos.

I bought one of these kits well over ten years ago, when I had a mk1 MX-5. Unfortunately it has only been used a couple of times and crashed, cracking the body slightly. Although I have got a spare, unpainted body, I would like to try and repair the original body and use it a bit more, rather than trashing the “good body”. Has anyone got any tips for repairing Tamiya body shells?
From the few times I drove it, I remember it seeming bloody fast, and tail happy!
