Hi All

i'm looking for a recomendation for a decent RC Car (well an off road buggy) as a christmas present for my 5 Year old son. i dont like the look of the argos type ones but am worried the jump up to all the Nitro models will be to big a leap for a 5 Year old. has anyone got any good suggestions?
cheers

For a 5 year old its quite hard to say tbh

The argos ones are poop but speed wise probably ideal for a kid of that age. Or you could get a entery level buggy but it will be a lot quicker to quick for a 5 year old but the advantage is you will be able to fix it when he crashes it.

I got this one: http://www.nitrotek.co.uk/fs-racing-bolt-2wd-elect... i also did a quick Google and another site (RCWorx) had it cheaper, i phoned them (Nitrotek) & they beat their price & gave me free delivery.

I'm gonna go with the Tamiya Lunchbox/Midnight pumpkin for this, great fun little things. If you stick a high turn motor (higher number of turns means lower RPM and lower speed but more torque) in it (or buy a transmitter where you can set the end points of travel) you can reduce the ankle smashing speed of it so that he gets used to driving. It also gives you something to build together too. The beauty of them is they can be upgraded to go a bit quicker as he gets older, and on a 4000mAh battery you'll get over an hour out of it. They are also good off road and can pop really nice wheelies smile

def lunchbox. Son's had his a year now (he's now 6.5), and has 20T ESC and 21T motor now, broken it only once (10quid repair) despite it being thrashed offroad repeatedly. Daughter who is 4.5 is getting a lunchbox for Christmas.... sprayed pink. Wanted to get her something girly, but she's having none of it.

Ebay seems to have a crazy Christmas tax on them at the moment, prices are about 30% more than I paid for my sons late last year. Got hers new from time tunnel, and she'll love building it up.

My lad (now 5) has a Tamiya Lunchbox with a 55T crawler motor in it. That slows it down nicely and means it can happily drag its way around the garden even if I haven't quite kept up to date with mowing the lawn. I did think about a buggy originally, but the LB means it works happily on long grass etc.. When he gets a bit more handy on the controls, I will put a stock motor back in and then eventually a modified motor. It was cheap to buy and most importantly easy and cheap to get replacement parts when they are required!

My 5 year old races a Tamiya Grasshopper at our local club and loves it to bits!
