I was looking at them for ages too, my mate has had one since they first came out and also had loads of other crawlers too. He said it was definitely the best out of the box, so I went for it in the end.
I’ve always been a Tamiya lover, so the thought of an RTR did put me off slightly, simply because I love the build as much as the running after.
Also, the limited choice of colours frustrated me, but then I found you can get new unpainted shells, so that wasn’t an issue.
At first I was a little disappointed, but I don’t think I have it a chance to shine. It’s not really a flat out wide open area machine, more a slow and steady technical thing to challenge where it can get.
The beauty of it is that in high gear it’s pretty quick too, but a little too heavy (as to be expected)
There is a huge amount of modifications and upgrades, more than I first realised.
The only other downside that put me off was the pistol style transmitter, but thankfully you can swap it and the receiver. So now I have it on my Spektrum DX6E.
I find it even better now, as I have the low/high gears on the left stick similar to a 3 speed Tamiya rather than a separate switch like the pistol.
Also, I now have the front and rear diff locks on separate switches too, with the pistol you can only Have none, rear only or front and rear. I can have any combination.
I’d recommend one if you have somewhere decent to use it with some challenging ground, as above, flat and wide open would be boring.
Personally I didn’t go for the 6 as I find it a bit gimmicky.
People say it’s got some climbing ability, but that’s just boring to me if it makes things a lot easier

They were a nightmare, and all the little tube of special grease you got for them did was make all the dirt and crap stick to them.I remember that the 3 speeds only worked for about 3 days, then they would revert to the all or nothing setting as the centre connection burnt out
