I will be needing new front brake disks and pads in the next couple of months. Anyone know good online places to order the parts from? For good, read well priced; some places are taking the proverbial with the V70 parts being over twice the price of the same parts for my Mondeo.

If you're looking for genuine parts I'd recommend you try FRF Volvo - they offer an excellent mail order service with good discount;

Just put new discs and pads on my t5. Got the parts from http://www.brakesint.co.uk/ for about £100. My discs are the vented 305mm ones. Does seem slightly more than our mondeo but if you want to see some real piss taking try and get some elise discs for reasonable money wink

Beforew you commit to aftermarket kit , speak with the local Volvo dealer , contrary to belief , Volvo spares are very well proice particularly brake discs and pads

Ask for a discount too , you will get 10% for sure but be bold and ask for 20 % .

RRP on front discs for my T5 was £57 inc. end of last year.

I think my local dealer quoted me something like 270 to change the front discs and pads, so I went to a local garage and he fitted (Mintex I think) pads and discs for about half that.

Bizarrely both discs and pads needed changing at the same time...as in neither had ever been changed before.

Simon that does the mail order is a top guy.
Ive ordered no end from him.

Strutbrace from an aftermarket supplier was 100 odd quid, genuine from Volvo £57.

I had mintex disks on my C70 T5, but they warped after 5 mins flat, i got my money back, so it has black diamond now.

My dads S70 T5 has frf supplied genuine Volvo ones.

I've just ordered Mintex discs and pads for £69.99 from Ebay. Here's hoping they are OK.

I've had mine fitted for a few months and a fair few miles now and had no problems at all, so I think you should be fine.

Very important.

Although the rear handbrake shoes never do enough braking to wear the linings out - there's a well documented issue whereby the linings seperate from the shoes and rattle around in the hub - in extreme cases causing the hub to sieze dangerously and/or writing off the hub casting (£££).

They're only a few pounds and a few seconds extra work to change when you've got the disk off.

yep...when I bought my S60 the previous owner had bought mintex discs and pads all round BUT ONLY fitted the front ones...leaving the rear ones in the boot for me to fit

I then read about the handbrake shoes coming apart on the Volvo forum so bought some mintex ones...did the lot myself in about an hour....when I took the old discs off BOTH lower shoes had the brake material coming away due to corrosion of the shoe metal surface, so lucky I did it when I did

it was a nice little job actually.

I have seen cases where the hub is completely wrecked due to the brake material coming off the shoe at high speed due to corrosion on the Genuine Volvo shoes... costing £££'s

if you are in any doubt as to weather yours has had new shoes then fit them ASAP..for the sake of £20 for mintex rear shoes and easy to fit it is not worth the gamble imho

I must check mine, if only for peace of mind. I have had problems with the handbrake shoes on my 740s, where the garage insisted on putting the springs in, in an entirely new way that made the shoes sit at an angle.
I put the new fronts on the V70 today. Must be getting old, because it never used to hurt after replacing discs before! hehe Beginning to feel quite good after a few miles of residental road speeds. Had a slight moment when I noticed a bad oil leak while I was down the side of the car. I had a 5 minute panic about steering racks and pumps before I realised it was the excess brake fluid coming out of te reservoir which some wazzock had put in with low pads at its last service (before I got it). A quick turkey baste sorted that one hehe

Getting a low moaning noise from the front occasionally as I trickle along at a few mph with no brakes on before stopping slowly. Stepping on the brake pedal stops it, but seems to be the new brakes making the noise. Hopefully it will go away when bedded in.

My rear discs and pads need replacing on a V70 Classic. Should I also get some of these handbrake shoes? Or does this fault not exist on the Classic?

Reason for their replacement is 'corrosion', do any companies apply better coatings to prevent this? Otherwise I'll get some Mintex OEMs from eBay as they're pretty cheap for what they are.

I honestly don't know if it effects the "classic V70"....I know it didn't effect my 850 but not owned a V70 classic so never looked into it

it will be be worth asking on the Volvo owners forum

sorry I can't be of more help
