I have a 2009 V70 with 20k on the clock (just) Love the car it's the first Volvo I have had. It has an electronic Dipstick so checking the oil is a snap or is it? The gauge has not moved since I bought the car cant believe it has not used any oil in that time its a diesel after all.
How reliable is the electrnic dipstick and is there a way to check it "properly"?
Currently shows a bit above half full

Check it's had the recall for rising oil levels if it's new gem 205ps twin turbo diesel, may apply to older too not sure.

When you say just above half full what do you mean?

My last one always read one bar below the top.

Any reason you expect to use oil, none of my Volvo diesels have ever used any?

Apparently there is a mechanics dip stick somewhere in the engine.

The oil level on my 2007 MY D5 with a conventional dipstick doesn't drop noticeably between services.

If it's any help my V50 D4 only has an electronic dipstick. I find it a bit of a faff to check, but what seemed to work today was turning the key to position II and twisting the trip computer selector. Pressing Read at some point may also help.

Sorry for being a bit vague as I'm not fully clear on what makes the reading appear, the dealer was a bit confused when they handed the car over.
