You oil burning bd smile

Every now and then I have thoughts about going to the darkside, or getting something more economical. But a trip from Norfolk to Kent with my dad in tow on in a E39 540 made me realise just how good the T5 is. Hardly anything in it on the motorway...

Might have to buy me a E46 330 though before I go to the S60R...

Glad to see its going to a good owner. Every Volvo I have sold or traded in (on number 4 now) has always been with a bit of sadness as they have given such good service.

I know my last V70 has gone to a very good home smile

Loving the s60 d5 too though, few bits done today at Volvo and its already feeling tighter and ready for another 100k!

Don't get me wrong My S60 is a superb car, if I change it I'll be giving it to my otherhalf and selling the Golf

that is a big IF...I do love it though, so we'll see what happens

Think the V70 T5 gets under the skin.

Had newer / faster / prestigous cars BUT the V70 T5 as an all-ronder is so hard to beat.

If the right 2006/7 260bhp 2.4 Manual popped up - just know that I would buy it. Even on the lookout for the V70 GIII T6 - but they are rarer still.

Had my T5-R for over a year now and she makes me smile as much as the Aston.

They are great cars and would like to think they will appreciate over the years, especially the limited edition R's

Not suprised you miss that car OP - looks like a cracking example.

850 T5 is very near the top of my 'must own' list.

It that averaging 35mpg?!

A friend has a remapped 1995 T5 estate and struggles to do better than the low 20's which was roughly what my old auto S70R would manage during "normal" driving. I've since had another white T5 estate (identical to this one) and it barely managed the high 20's even on a run. Hence, a few months back I bought a V70 2.5D however I always find myself back looking at V70 T5 of V70Rs with increased regularity... however for daily driver/motorway work the appalling fuel economy puts me off. That said, that image would suggest "reasonable" figures are achievable!

Can I ask what sort of mileage/conditions that was calculated over?

Regards

Nothing really constructive to add we used T5 as patrol cars for a few years! Great car civilised plenty of load space but open the taps and despite trying to look professional and concentrating on my road craft couldn't help grinning!! We use the new twin turbo D5 now not bad at all for a diesel but just not as pleasing as the T5. But when you consider the T5s were giving about 15/16 mpg average and the D5s are giving 28/29 you can see the logic of it!! Just ever now and then I miss the grin the T5 would produce when pulling out of an uphill bend in 3rd and would just keep you firmly pressed back in your seat until you had to change up or slow down!!

How long have you been there Andy? Did you drive the original 850's because they were the real beasts? I recently sold a couple of BMW's to get that kick back.

6 years on traffic, they were V70s by then and although they were the original 5 speed V70s from what I'm told more user friendly but less fun than the original 850 T5s!!! Still made me grin though!!

I retired 3 years ago but did more than 20 years on traffic. The 850 was far more brutal than the S70. I currently run a C70 but I am looking for an earlier 850 T5 as a bit of a fun car. The one on my profile was one of my favourite patrol cars .
If you look on youtube and input Volvo 850 Nurburgring, there is some cracking in car footage and the sound of that engine at max. revs takes me back.
