It's a Volvo V70 (estate) petrol. Well serviced, a good workhorse, but in the recent cold (and previously) it has a slight misfire when cruising and stalls when slowing at junctions even though it's an auto. Anyone got any ideas before she takes it into the dealer? Thanks.

Have a listen near any vacuum hoses for an air leak.

It'll be the French made air bypass control valve on the throttle body

Unlikely but worth mentioning because it happened to me recently. Rodents chewed some of the wires under the bonnet in my work car park. I'd just started working there and found out afterwards that there are dirty great rats in the undergrowth near where I WAS parking.

I'd lean towards the Coilpack too.

Similar problem on a T5 recently but was much more serious - was the mass air flow sensor at fault, disconnect it and see how it runs

the previous owner of my V40 took it to three garages to try and have this exact same problem resolved.

in the end he gave up and part exchanged it for something else at the garage my brother worked at and i bought it cheap - i took the idle air valve off, cleaned it in thinners and refitted it.

its run perfect ever since and has never cut out or miss fired since.

took about five minutes to do!

Its a common problem on Ka's too, here is the remedy for them, perhaps the Volvo is similar.
