Looks like this might be the next family too and a replacement for the v70.

Now I've looked at the power / performance data and, of course, I want the v8. However they don't make them anymore and are rare as rocking horse manure.

So, if we go the D5 route, any idea what we can screw out of it - I know the new ones do 205 bhp but can you get any more? Coming from a T5 I think this might be a bit lame.

Thanks.

I'd say 205bhp is about as much as you're going to get; safely anyway. As I'm sure you know, the old D5 is as much about the torque as the bhp mind...so it's as much about how you drive it as the tweaking you do.

And obviously you have to remember the 90 is a big old bus and so its never going to be a rocket ship.

I can also offer the premium Swedish written MTE software for the post or pre model year '05 D5s for £435.

Each package is written spoecifically for your car using the files downloaded by our customers using the unuique MTE Soiftloader device that acts as an interface between your car's OBD port and an XP or Windows 7 equipped laptop.

You do have to pay a fully returnable deposit of £155 for the Softloader Device. If you buy it outright it does enable you to swap at will between MTE and standard Volvo software.

Plus, if you do buy the Device you can make a further simultaneous purchase of MTE's data logging and comprehensive Diagnostics package for £135.

Regards, Don.

Be vary of the very poor aftersales and optimistic power output figures.Rica is good but its the aftersales when things to pear shaped.MTE/BSR is a wiser choice as dealers are little better.

Don at Kalmar Union & Marco at MTE are your guys for Volvo tuning. I've never used RICA, but that's because I've seen some of their power graphs and would rather not.

The MTE software for the 185bhp D5 will give 220bhp and 475 nm.

The power depends on which model you go for. For diesel tuning I would certainly recommend RICA as the first choice. It's hugely popular with Volvo diesel owners and gives stunning performance. Go for a Euro 4 model, or later.

I wouldnt describe Rica as popular with Volvo owners but a potential for disaster.
try reading up on www.t5d5.org where a lot of D5 drivers gather and have experiance of good and some bad tuning.
RobbieH and Redbrick are 2 names to lookout for both have alot of experiance with the D5's.
